Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) Atlantic helps families with ill or injured children stay together and near the medical care they need. Our programs include Ronald McDonald House®, a “home away from home” for out-of-town families with sick children, and two Ronald McDonald Family Room® Programs, offering an oasis of calm and support inside the hospital. Ronald McDonald House Charities Atlantic is a non-profit organization. We depend upon charitable donations and volunteer support from many individuals, corporations and foundations to fulfill our mission. We receive no operational funding from the government.

Welcome to Happy at Home Halifax, ​We are always seeking individuals who have a heart for seniors and want to make an impact in their community! Read below about the programs we offer and click "Apply now" to fill out a volunteer application form! ​We offer a weekly meal delivery service free of charge to seniors who find it challenging to cook a well-balanced meal for a variety of reasons. We know healthy food positively impacts our ability to function at our best. Our meals are delivered frozen so they can be used whenever the recipient needs it. A meal contains a main dish, roll, and a dessert. While a recipient is on this service, we try to find a long-term solution for them to receive healthy meals more than once a week. ​Delivery of prepaid grocery or pharmacy items is available. Our team of volunteers will pickup prepaid grocery and prescription orders and bring these items right to your door.  At times, mobility, weather, and health issues can make it difficult to pickup these needed items and we are here to help. ​Our Home Maintenance program offers free labour to complete small tasks such as installing doorknobs, toilet paper holders, hanging pictures or mirrors, assembling furniture etc. These smaller jobs can make a house much more comfortable for seniors to live in and feel more like home. ​​Kind regards, Happy at Home Halifax Team

Happy at Home Halifax, in collaboration with Spencer House Senior Centre and Chebucto Links, provides seniors with practical supports to help them live independently at home. A primarily volunteer based initiative offering free delivery of essential items. Our Outreach Coordinator is available to help seniors and their support systems, navigate the many programs and services available and find one that assists them to live happier, safer lives, while aging well at home.

The LINKS Literacy Program  is a community based tutoring program for elementary age children who are at least one year behind in reading/writing development.  It is geared for children with a learning disability, although an official diagnosis is not necessary. LINKS is part of Chisholm Services for Children. Chisholm Services for Children is a non-profit organization located in Halifax providing a long-term Child and Youth Caring Program, that specializes in early intervention, prevention and permanency planning. Chisholm is dedicated to guiding children twelve years of age and younger who face severe adverse circumstances like neglect and abuse, to a realization of self-worth. Chisholm helps children develop skills and capacities to function successfully in a community setting and grow as healthy, stable individuals.

2b theatre company is a driving artistic voice, bringing innovative works of great ambition, rigour, care, and impact to the world stage. 2b theatre company strives to stimulate the mind and awaken the spirit by producing theatre that is innovative and challenging. We create, produce, present, and tour original work nationally and internationally. Our work is part of the evolution of contemporary theatre aesthetics. We are also an incubator, central to a thriving national theatre community, that offers a range of creation, performance, and production opportunities for arts professionals from our region and beyond.

We rely on volunteers to get food onto the tables of our clients in the peninsula, Halifax area. How much time you can spare for this valuable work depends on you. There are also special projects and fundraisers we hold that may be more suitable for individuals who can't commit on a weekly basis but have times through the year for short time periods. Code Ninjas is North America's largest kids coding franchise. In our Dojos, kids don't just learn coding - they learn important life skills such as leadership, creativity, problem-solving and computational and critical thinking, and STEM skills in a fun, safe, and inspiring environment - by playing and building video games they love. Kids have a blast and can't wait to come back. Parents are thrilled as their children gain confidence and new skills including coding, math, logic, and problem-solving, as they progress from white to black belt. Guided by our team of Code Senseis, Code Ninjas empower kids to gain valuable tech skills and make new friends. It's an unforgettably fun learning experience! Our Camps help teach important life skills wrapped up in themes they love, like Robotics, Roblox, Minecraft, YouTube, and more! We strive to have a positive relationship with the community by providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for kids, outside of school. We encourage our students to use their coding skills to make a positive impact on the community, such as creating apps or websites to solve problems. Our curriculum teaches kids to code by creating games using tools such as ScratchJr, MakeCode Arcade, and Unity. They are not just passively playing games - they are building games while learning the fundamentals of coding and having a great time doing it!

About NECHC The North End Community Health Centre (NECHC) was established in 1971 in response to an absence of primary health care and other health services in Halifax’s North End. Located on Gottingen Street, we are in the heart of a unique and culturally diverse community. Today, governed by a board of directors, the NECHC is viewed by area residents as a “beacon of hope” in the community. Much more than a Primary Care Clinic, the NECHC has expanded in response to unmet needs of community members and is highly-valued by its patients and clients and their families. After moving through several sites ebbs and flows of activity, the work of the Mission was taken up by the congregation of Brunswick Street United Church in 1929. The City Mission offered support including childcare, food, clothing, and employment help. Over time, the work of the Mission grew to be too much for one congregation to carry out and in 2005, the Halifax Presbytery of The United Church of Canada approved the trial formation of a separate entity: Brunswick Street Mission. The trial was deemed a success and permanent arrangements were made in 2009. Our mission remains as it did over 150 years ago: working to meet the needs of those experiencing poverty in Halifax.

Halifax Early Childhood School (HECS) was founded in 1959 by a group of parents interested in providing an enriched program of pre-school activities for their children. HECS is the oldest established pre-school in the city of Halifax.

Support Services Group is a nonprofit organization that serves people with disabilities and supports them live independently in the community, providing the necessary supports to enable independence and freedom of choice. We support around 200 members in Nova Scotia(Metro, South Shore, Annapolis Valley) and their families and we work together to fulfill their goals and help them live their good life in the community.

The Halifax Humanities Society is a non-profit organization committed to offering free, non-credit, university-level humanities education to adults facing barriers to traditional education in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
