The Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival (or Halifax Musical Festival, as it was known at that time) was launched in 1935 by a committee of dedicated music educators and supporters who wished to provide the young artists of our community with the opportunity to pursue their craft at a broader level.  The remarkable and continued success of this project has allowed us to continue since that time on an annual basis.
Halifax Meals on Wheels has been delivering fresh, nutritious meals for almost half a century. Dedicated volunteers deliver meals to those in Halifax who are unable to prepare a meal for themselves. Volunteer teams consisting of a helper and a driver deliver fresh chilled meals and warm hearts while providing peace of mind for our clients and their families.
East Coast Environmental Law Association, established in 2007, responds to community inquiries, carries out legal and policy research and presents educational resources and opportunities to increase public awareness of environmental laws in Atlantic Canada. Our objective is to build capacity in the public and among legal practitioners so that we can work together to ensure that environmental laws are effectively used and strengthened. Through its workshops, inquiry line and projects, ECELAW's work touches on a variety of wide-ranging issues of lasting public importance including water, fisheries, mining, energy, protected places, species at risk, and environmental assessment.

Our Legacy The Canada Games Centre was built as the legacy of the 2011 Winter Canada Games. In February of 2011, the Centre hosted the badminton, syncronised swimming and artistic gymnastics events. The Canada Games Centre is now a community recreation centre open to the public. We’re a privately operated facility run by a non-profit society that seeks to promote fitness and wellness in our community. The Centre runs recreation programs, camps, fitness classes and much more. Nocturne: Art at Night is a fall festival that brings art and energy to the streets of Halifax between 6pm-midnight. It is an annual event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax and engages audiences with contemporary art throughout the city. Nocturne is designed and planned by volunteers to support and promote artists, galleries and art organizations, we aim to enrich the cultural, social, and economic vitality of our community by transforming art’s place in the city. One of the best ways to support the festival is to come out and lend a hand! Depending on your interest, you’ll get opportunities to interact with artists, board members and the general public. We need festival assistants and guides in different areas to help us with on the night of!
The Avalon Sexual Assault Centre is a feminist organization working to eliminate sexual assault/abuse, and to change the current socio-political culture that fosters sexism, social injustice and other forms of oppression.
