The Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia (BIANS) is currently seeking 3–4 new volunteer members to join our Board of Directors.BIANS is a registered charitable organization that has supported individuals and families affected by acquired brain injury (ABI) since 1989. We work across Nova Scotia to strengthen connection, support, and understanding for people living with brain injury and their caregivers, while helping communities and systems respond more effectively.We are looking for individuals who are interested in community impact, governance, and supporting people and families affected by brain injury. The CUSP Program serves youth between the ages of 12-18 in the community through skill-building workshops, volunteering events, and free valuable training (e.g., First-Aid, and Babysitting Training). Mentors are adults (+18) who serve as living examples of the skills we’re trying to instill in the CUSP Program participants. They’ll be encouraging, guiding, and inspiring youth. Mentors are onboarded during the early weeks of the cohorts and stay from beginning to completion. Results is an advocacy nonprofit that believes in mobilizing everyday people (our volunteers) to generate the political will to end extreme poverty in low-and middle-income countries. We focus our work on global health, access to quality education and economic opportunities. We direct our energy and efforts at government decision makers like party leaders, Members of Parliament and senators because they have the power to improve policies and make the monetary investments needed to end extreme poverty. We also raise awareness by writing letters to the editor (LTEs) and op-eds, using social media, fundraising and more. Oftentimes the first step is putting these issues on the radar — and keeping the pressure on. It might seem like a small step, but it all adds up into impact. commitment: 1 year minimum, 1-2 hours per week on average support structure: Volunteers (virtually) meet in local groups on a monthly basis and rely on their group leader(s) for guidance. As a MARS volunteer you may be asked to support MARS’ marine animal response operations under the direction of a MARS Responder in response to incidents in the Maritime Provinces. Since the work that MARS does can vary, volunteers may be asked to assist response for incidents involving dead or distressed cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises), seals, sharks and other large marine wildlife. Occasionally, there are also opportunities to help in other ways, such as with public outreach.
