Delivering balanced meals to any person who is unable to provide for themselves due to reasons of illness, accident or other disabilities, with special consideration for seniors to help them maintain independence and proper nutrition. Sackville-Bedford Meals on Wheels was founded by two nursing students in 1986, who recognized a need for meal delivery in the area. With the help of community members, the first Board was established and the Royal Canadian Legion became the main sponsor. Originally part of the Cobequid Multi-Service Centre, Sackville-Bedford Meals on Wheels now operates as a separate organization, serving Sackville Bedford and surrounding areas. While Halifax County Correctional Centre initially provided meals, restaurants, nursing homes, and individuals have also had the role of cook, with meals currently being made by a team at the Sackville Legion. Our main office is located at the Cobequid Health Center. Over the years, many organizations have donated time, money, and resources to support Meals on Wheels. Many of our volunteers and staff have each dedicated more than a decade of their time and expertise to Meals on Wheels. However, fundraising to keep meal prices affordable remains a challenge.

Liver Canada (LC), formerly known as the Canadian Liver Foundation, was first established in 1969. We exist to promote liver health, increase public understanding and awareness of liver diseases, and provide support to those affected.

Our volunteers come from diverse cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. YRES has many opportunities for volunteers as we are always expanding our programs. YRES is a Charitable Not-for-Profit Organization that uses the help of community partners in order to carry out a variety of ever-expanding Educational Services.

GPAC is a registered charity and a 100% volunteer-driven organization. We are always in need of new volunteers. You don’t have to own a greyhound and no experience is necessary. An experienced GPAC volunteer will provide you with any required training in any area. Volunteer opportunities at the GPAC kennel located in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia, include turn outs, feeding, walks, one-on-one play time, and taking the dogs to spay/neuter veterinary appointments.

Special Olympics Sackville-Bedford is dedicated to enriching the lives of persons with an intellectual disability – through sport. We are a not-for-profit, grassroots organization that provides sport training and competition opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities.

The Sackville Heights Community Centre is a non-profit organization located in Middle Sackville.  It's mission is "To provide facilities and programs to enhance the health, culture, wellness, and spirit of the members of the community of Sackville, Nova Scotia."  The SHCC is home to various organizations within the community that vary from the Boys and Girls Club to the Sackville Seniors Advisory Council.  SHCC runs recreational programs, workshops and various community style events such as it's Annual Family Fun Day and Community Yard Sales.

Start2Finish’s mission is to break the cycle of child poverty by providing ongoing educational support to Canada’s at risk children throughout their school years, nurturing mind, body and social health so they are empowered to succeed and become role models for change.
