The Halifax Summer Opera Festival and Workshop educates and develops both singers and audiences through the performance of operatic repertoire. Our goals are to present three fully staged operas each summer in Halifax that challenge and enrich both artists and audience, and that are artistically and financially accessible to both. Our aesthetic is artist-centred, creative, professional, relatively low-budget, alternative, modern and respectful of our source material. Our clients are singers (from community members to university undergrads to professionals), creative and technical workers and audience members, who may be experienced opera or theatre goers, or newcomers to the art form
The Halifax Tea Festival brings together like-minded people to raise awareness around locally owned and operated teashops, cafes, local food establishments, organic agriculture, artisans, etc.
This festival supports the Buy Local movement by providing an accessible way to introduce products and services to the community in a unique and fun manner.
Last year for our First Annual event we welcomed hundreds of tea enthusiasts from HRM and beyond. The Festival taps into the history and the culture of tea.
It’s an opportunity to connect deeper with each other and our health.
The event is family friendly, safe, interactive, and full of learning opportunities.The Halifax Tea Festival donates a portion of admission fees to a non-profit every year.

Happy at Home Halifax, in collaboration with Spencer House Senior Centre and Chebucto Links, provides seniors with practical supports to help them live independently at home. A primarily volunteer based initiative offering free delivery of essential items. Our Outreach Coordinator is available to help seniors and their support systems, navigate the many programs and services available and find one that assists them to live happier, safer lives, while aging well at home.
The Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour is hosting its ninth annual Harbourside Ribfest at Alderney Landing. Harbourside RibFest is proudly 100% run by volunteers and serves as a vital community fundraiser. We rely on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals and groups like you to bring our festival to life. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to great causes while being part of an exciting community event.
This year's festivity will feature a diverse selection of five rib trucks alongside vibrant local vendors, set to attract thousands of attendees. Our event not only offers a delightful culinary experience but also serves a greater purpose, with all proceeds being channeled into supporting numerous local and international charities through the Rotary Club's efforts.

HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development is a dynamic and innovative not-for-profit, registered charity focused on creating meaningful youth engagement to build healthy communities. We have provided our services within Nova Scotia since 1988; we also have affiliations and partnerships nationally and have delivered programs across the country and internationally. Currently we are looking for new volunteers for our Board of Directors.
HeartWood’s mission is “youth engagement for positive community change.” We do this by Helping Youth to positively engage in their communities and develop their skills and capacity to take action and make change; training and coaching adults in youth engagement strategies and tools; working directly with larger systems over an extended period of time to improve their youth engagement strategies and inform their policies to better serve youth.
Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, founded in 1959, is a non-profit registered charity whose goal is to conserve buildings and sites of historic significance, and to promote this important cultural component of Nova Scotia’s identity. HTNS gives small grants, publishes, hosts lectures and other educational events, researches buildings and sites.
The Chronicle Herald Holiday Parade of Lights presented by Eastlink is taking place on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at 6:00pm in downtown Halifax! This year's parade will be led by the second annual Red Nose Run in support of the QEII Foundation, a fun run that follows the same route as the parade and begins at 5:45pm. We will need volunteers on the route for the run as well.
For 20 years we have relied on the help of our volunteers to help make the Holiday Parade of Lights a success. Please join us again on November 19th to help kick off the holiday season!
We are looking for volunteers in the following positions:
- Marshalling Area Line-up Coordinators
- Run Start Line
- Run Finish Line/Parade End of Route
- Parade/Run Route Team Members
Volunteer Requirements:
- All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older by November 19, 2016
- All volunteer correspondence will be done via email, please check your email often!
- Volunteers must give 24 hours notice of shift cancellation except in cases of emergency.
- If you would like to be stationed at a specific location along the parade route, please mention this in the Notes section of the application

The Hooked Rug Museum of North America collects, exhibits and preserves the heritage of hand-hooked rugs and artifacts used in the making of fibre art. It researches the history of this art, presents it in an accurate manner and also encourages future development of the art. We are run solely by volunteers with one summer student (open seasonally May - October).

Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia was created by the merger of Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association (MISA) and Halifax Immigrant Learning Centre (HILC) - together we have a combined experience of over fifty years serving immigrants in Nova Scotia. We are the largest immigrant-serving agency in Atlantic Canada with over 270 staff members from more than 64 countries. The IWK Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to support IWK Health—the largest pediatric hospital and trauma centre in Atlantic Canada. IWK Health is also one of only two health centres in Canada that cares for both women and children. As the primary fundraising partner with IWK Health, we want to ensure Maritime women, children, and families needing the advanced and specialized care of IWK Health have access to the highest level of care possible.
