Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia Volunteer Opportunity   Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia (GBSNS)  is on its way to incorporating as a nonprofit organization.  The vision of our Society is that green burial  and other eco-friendly disposition practices are the preferred choice for Nova Scotians.   GBSNS  works to raise awareness and accessibility of green burial options in Nova Scotia.  Through education and advocacy we help Nova Scotians understand and recognize the environmental benefits of green burial.   Green burial is the act of returning a body as naturally as possible to the earth using less energy and resources, making it lower impact than conventional burials or cremation.  Green burials are also less toxic, reduce carbon emissions, and protect worker health.  Green burial minimizes environmental impacts, conserves and can even restore or preserve natural ecosystems.  It offers an opportunity to carry one's living values into death.   Board Secretary (Volunteer Role) The board secretary is a non-voting member of the board and reports to the Board.   Time Commitment 8-10 hours month (board meetings and secretarial duties as described below)   Term of Office Two years   Duties and Responsibilities The Secretary works closely with the Board Chair in the planning of board and Society meetings and is responsible for ensuring the creation and timely distribution of the board meeting agenda and Society membership meetings (AGM) the accurate recording and distribution of the minutes of board meetings.  The minutes should reflect the format and level of detail as required by the board the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date board planning calendar, outlining matters to be on the agenda over the course of a year (e.g. approval of budget, report on board recruitment, AGM, as well as key events board members are expected to attend) maintenance of a full contact list of board members including board member appointment dates, term of appointments and board member bios updating, maintaining and safe storage of the Association's minute book and other legal documents such as incorporation documents, bylaws, insurance policies and important contracts maintenance of an up-to-date list of members of the Society the accurate recording and distribution of the minutes of the Society's Annual General Meeting   Qualifications A clear understanding and a commitment to the mission of GBSNS Preferably at least one year of relevant experience of working with a nonprofit Board Knowledge of meeting procedures An adequate level of writing proficiency and access to a computer for word processing   For more information, please contact Theresa Farrell, Volunteer Co-Coordinator  theresafarrell1099@gmail.com

We are currently working in a number of areas including…. • implementation pathways for green cemeteries • public information sessions • research of present cemeteries • strengthening our relationship with the Green Burial Society of Canada

The Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre (H&R MFRC) is proud to be a part of a strong military family community. The H&R MFRC is a registered charity, governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of a minimum of 51 per cent military family members. We are here to support military families and members, especially during times when postings and deployments bring challenges. The H&R MFRC has several programs designed to support integration into new communities, and deployment readiness for families to ensure everyone is well prepared for whatever the CAF life throws your way. The Halifax & Region MFRC serves military families in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Shearwater, Central and Northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, with service sites in Halifax, Shearwater and Sydney, Cape Breton. An independent, registered charity the MFRC relies on community support to provide many programs and services. Corporate and individual donations provide resources so Canadian Forces members and their families can stay strong.

The Halifax Busker Festival is the oldest and largest of its kind in Canada. The Festival Team is excited to offer electrifying international performers from Canada, United Stages, England, Ireland and Australia! Come and watch them perform a wide varity of street theatre, acrobatics, music, visual arts, fire displays and comedy.

Halifax Crafters is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization with a mandate to encourage new artists and local art making. Each year we organize two shows, one in the spring and one before the Christmas holidays. Our carefully curated and unique market is a place where established and emerging Crafters show their work side by side. We strive to remain a financially accessible market for vendors while staying fresh, seeking out new talent and encouraging new craftspeople to enter the marketplace. We also strive to make the market accessible to the community by offering free admission.

The Halifax Cycling Coalition is an organization of concerned citizens dedicated to improving cycling conditions and raising awareness of cycling issues in the Halifax Regional Municipality. The HCC believes that increased bicycle use has the potential to - Reduce traffic congestion - Reduce Halifax infrastructure spending - Improve our health - Enhance our urban environment We want to change the circumstances that discourage bicycle use: inadequate cycling facilities, and lack of education for both cyclists and motorists.

ABOUT THE HALIFAX FRINGE FESTIVAL The Halifax Fringe is an annual performing arts festival. Since 1990, we have presented an accessible, un-juried, and uncensored festival. The Fringe includes theatre, music, circus, dance, comedy, and more. The Halifax Fringe presents local, national, and international artists. This coming year, the Halifax Fringe will be presented from September 3rd to 13th, 2026. MISSION The Halifax Fringe Festival creates spaces for everyone to express themselves through performance. VISION The Halifax Fringe Festival is a home for anyone to tell their story. We empower artists and audiences. By prioritizing our core values of being un-juried, uncensored, and accessible, we aim to create a space that welcomes differences and celebrates expression. VALUES - Un-juried: Participants are selected by lottery. - Prioritizing Artists: 100% of the base ticket price goes directly to the artists. - Uncensored: Festival producers have no control over the artistic content of each performance. The artistic freedom of the participants is unrestrained. - Accessibility: The Festival must provide an easily accessible opportunity for all audiences and artists to participate. - Equity: The Fringe will promote and model inclusivity, diversity and multiculturalism, and will endeavour to incorporate them into all aspects of our organization.

Halifax Helps (www.halifaxhelps.ca) is a new online home for people who are making a difference, or who want to make a difference, in Halifax and beyond. We help people make a meaningful difference by creating opportunities to do good, by providing practical information on how to do good, and by inspiring and supporting each other to do good.

We are a small non-profit Board that is the liaison for Government Funding and the Management company who produces the Busker Festival. We meet for an hour 3-4 times per year. We are looking to add diversity to the Board and are looking for individuals who may have a business or other connection to the Halifax downtown area and interested in joining the Board.

The Halifax Jazz Festival (HJF), formed as JazzEast Rising is a non-profit organization created in 1987 to present the first ever Halifax Jazz Festival (formerly known as the Atlantic Jazz Festival) in Nova Scotia, Canada. Over the past 29 years, HJF has widened its horizons beyond the successful TD Halifax Jazz Festival to become involved, throughout the year, in a diverse range of musical and educational activities. HJF's mandate runs from the promotion and presentation of soft-seat concerts and club shows to planning educational workshops (such as the renowned Creative Music Workshop). We develop opportunities for amateur musicians, established local artists and the local "jazz aristocracy". We bring renowned performers from many parts of the world to a city that doesn't always find itself naturally on the maps for touring artists. In brief, we think jazz is important to the culture which we'd like to have, and we want to make sure that kind of culture is strong in Halifax, where we love to live.

Oktoberfest is a cultural festival organized to unite the community in celebration of German heritage. Launched in 2009, the Halifax Oktoberfest attracts hundreds of locals and visitors alike to the Halifax Waterfront to enjoy authentic Bavarian cuisine, beverages, and music along with raising money for Charity! This year, be sure to come on down to the Salter Lot for a day of giant pretzels, cold craft beer, dancing and games! There's the traditional tapping of the cask to kick off the festival, keg bowling, and live music by the Swell Guys and Die Brewmisters. Proceeds from this event go to charity. Prosit!

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) is responsible for policing the urban core of the Halifax region as well as the area commonly referred to as the Sambro Loop and the Purcells Cove - Herring Cove Loop.
