Second Harvest is the largest food rescue organization in Canada and global thought leader on food recovery. We work across the supply chain from farm to retail to capture surplus food before it ends up in the landfill which negatively impacts our environment.
Last year, we recovered more than 22.3 million pounds of nutritious, unsold food — focusing on protein, dairy and produce — we rescued before it became waste and redistributed to a broad network of 2,300 social service organizations. Supported by hundreds of corporations, foundations, and the community at large, we rescue and redistribute enough food to provide over 62,000 meals a day in Canada. Since 1985 we have rescued and delivered more than 177 million pounds of food, preventing over 75 million pounds of greenhouse gas equivalents from entering our atmosphere.
VISION: No Waste. No Hunger.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been entertained by our unique brand of outdoor theatre, and have been delighted to find the quality of the work is upheld in the intimate indoor venue that houses performances during inclement summer weather, as well as during the fall/winter/spring months.
Shakespeare by the Sea is an artist-driven collaborative organization. Under the guidance of a Board of Directors, the company offers a full repertory season of outdoor summer theatre, traditionally ranging from July 1 to Labour Day.
If you are someone who enjoys theatre, meeting people, and working outdoors volunteering with us is the perfect opportunity for you! Knowledge of Shakespeare is not a prerequisite.
Responsibilities may can include, but are not limited to the following:
Welcoming patrons
Distributing programs

Ensuring that all guests have an enjoyable experience!
Hours are based around show times which are in the evenings with matinees on the weekends and no shows on Mondays. Any amount of commitment is welcomed.
Shakespeare by the Sea excites the audience with the wonder of words and the unique joy of live performance, while shedding light on the human condition with the greatest plays in the English language, in great settings, for a great price (pay what you can!).

This season, we are presenting Cinderelly (The Musical) and Hamlet (Prince of Denmark), and are looking for volunteers to help with front-of-house set-up and take-down. This is a great way to get involved with local theatre, while also getting to witness very cool and fun shows! It also looks great on the resume. We can't wait to work with you :)

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence.
Established in July 2019, Shelter Movers Nova Scotia (SMNS) is made up of a growing team of dedicated volunteers helping to ensure an immediate and lasting impact on survivors in the province. With headquarters in the Halifax Regional Municipality and two rural extensions in the Annapolis Valley and the South Shore, SMNS offers our services to over 60% of the Nova Scotian population.
Shelter Nova Scotia is passionate about ending homelessness one person at a time. We help people transition from crisis to community. To this end, we operate 5 facilities in HRM providing over 44,000 bed nights per year to men and women with young children who otherwise have nowhere to turn. Each year we care for 1500 people. 17% of our clients are between the ages of 16-24.
We offer far more than shelter; utilizing client and housing support workers in tandem with mental health and addiction services we help people find sustainable independent living. www.shelternovascotia.com
We provide shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster.
We listen and adapt our support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster, alongside our supporters and partners.
ShelterBox teams work with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and other essential items to support them in rebuilding their lives.
Every disaster is different and so is every community, so we spend time with those affected to make sure we can offer the right support at the right time to help them recover. See how we work.
Our teams can travel by boat, helicopter or tuk-tuk to get to the families who need your support – whatever it takes to get to the people who have lost their homes to disaster. See where we are currently working.
