March of Dimes is a community-based rehabilitation and advocacy charity for people with physical disabilities. Our goal is to enhance the independence and community participation of people with physical disabilities every day through a wide range of programs and services across the country.
Since 1951, March of Dimes has been on the forefront of the disability movement in Canada. Every year, we provide programs and services to over 50,000 children and adults with disabilities.

Our goal is to enhance the independence and community participation of people with physical disabilities every day through a wide range of programs and services across the country. We strive to create a society inclusive of people with physical disabilities, maximizing independence, personal empowerment, and community participation, providing services and programming tailored to the needs of both the individual and the community.
The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts is a Canadian performing arts school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, that offers courses in higher education in music, dance, and theatre. It is the largest and the oldest of such organizations for education in the performing arts east of Montreal.
Maritime Muslim Academy (MMA) is an independent educational institution based on Islamic principles, whose mission is to educate students intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially in a trusting and caring Islamic environment. The Academy offers standard educational programs like any other school in Canada and also offers Quran and Arabic as well as the basic teaching in Islamic beliefs, principles, and values.
The Academy was founded in 1984 to serve the Muslim community in the Halifax/Dartmouth area. It is one of the earliest Islamic schools established in Canada and is the only Islamic school in Atlantic Canada. MMA offers private educational services to students from September to June, a total of 195 teaching days/year, and provides full-time teaching at all stages of education: Preschool, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High. English is the main language of instruction, however, Arabic and French are taught as second languages.
The Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU) supports research to improve health across the Maritime Provinces. The MSSU focuses on research priorities of provincial governments and health authorities in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Research teams also draw on MSSU as a resource to support studies that improve health care and inform health policy.
The Mayflower, which houses six sheets of curling ice for leagues of all levels, is one of the largest curling clubs east of Ontario and one of the most well-known clubs in Canada. Teams representing Mayflower have proudly brought home banners for provincial, national, and world titles for decades. The club boasts an impressive roster of hosting several Canadian championship events, numerous provincial championship events, as well as national competitive events, including the 1995 TSN Skins Game, the 2002 Canadian Mixed, the 2011 Canada Winter Games (Curling Venue), and the 2014 Travelers Canadian Club Championships. In January of 2016 and 2017 the Mayflower proudly hosted the Nova Scotia Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships, the first time these events were held concurrently. The Mayflower clubhouse has two lounges, a bar, a full-service kitchen, and a pro shop.
The Mayflower was founded in in 1905 and is a landmark in our city’s rich history. In 1912 the ice shed was used as a morgue for victims of the infamous Titanic sinking, and just five years later the club was destroyed in the devastating Halifax explosion. The Mayflower was rebuilt on Agricola Street, where it remained until moving to its present location on Monaghan Drive in 1962.
The Mayflower Curling Club is a not-for-profit organization, governed by its Board of Directors as directed by the membership. The Board is made up of an Executive (President, Past President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) and seven additional Directors (Membership, Curling, Day Ladies, Juniors, Property and Ice, Social, and Marketing). The General Manager is responsible for daily operations and reports to the Board.
Our membership is our most valued asset at the club. Today the club includes over 400 adult members and over 100 youth members that participate in leagues each day of the week.
Halifax Meals on Wheels has been delivering fresh, nutritious meals for almost half a century. Dedicated volunteers deliver meals to those in Halifax who are unable to prepare a meal for themselves. Volunteer teams consisting of a helper and a driver deliver fresh chilled meals and warm hearts while providing peace of mind for our clients and their families.
<strong>Delivering balanced meals to any person who is unable to provide for themselves due to reasons of illness, accident or other disabilities, with special consideration for seniors to help them maintain independence and proper nutrition.</strong>
Sackville-Bedford Meals on Wheels was founded by two nursing students in 1986, who recognized a need for meal delivery in the area. With the help of community members, the first Board was established and the Royal Canadian Legion became the main sponsor.
Originally part of the Cobequid Multi-Service Centre, Sackville-Bedford Meals on Wheels now operates as a separate organization, serving Sackville Bedford and surrounding areas. While Halifax County Correctional Centre initially provided meals, restaurants, nursing homes, and individuals have also had the role of cook, with meals currently being made by a team at the Sackville Legion. Our main office is located at the Cobequid Health Center.
Over the years, many organizations have donated time, money, and resources to support Meals on Wheels. Many of our volunteers and staff have each dedicated more than a decade of their time and expertise to Meals on Wheels. However, fundraising to keep meal prices affordable remains a challenge.
For more than 25 years, MediaEdge has launched, managed and produced market-leading, well-recognized, print and digital publishing, conference and trade show products within a variety of industry-specific sectors, positioning MediaEdge amongst the most respected organizations in this field.
<span class="heading-line">Metro Care & Share Society is a registered non-profit organization that has been active since 1984 as a fundraising organization for youth education, and community initiatives and partnerships. The Halifax Scholars Program is the most recent initiative which aims at eradicating poverty through educational advancement. The program pays for tuition and living expenses for the scholars throughout the academic year. These are the students who otherwise would not be able to attend post-secondary education. The program currently has eight scholars; one recently graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. There are currently two more enrolled at St. Mary’s University, two at St. Francis Xavier University, two at Dalhousie University and one at Université Sainte-Anne.</span>
Metro Care and Share Society is a non-profit organization based in Halifax, NS that helps youths from low-income families to go to college and university by paying their tuition and living costs.
MRHL is a new youth roller hockey where its mission, vision & values align to give all kids regardless of socioeconomic background the opportunity to play a sport they love at an affordable price for all.
