Breakthrough T1D Canada
Toronto, Ontario
Joined Dec 27, 2025
Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) is the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization. As we drive toward curing T1D, we help make every day better for the people who live with it.
In 1974, a group of parents determined to find cures for their children living with type 1 diabetes came together to begin what is now Breakthrough T1D, launching the largest funder and advocate for T1D research in Canada.
Our focus was and remains on finding cures for type 1 diabetes (T1D); since then, the organization has helped to fund research that has led to innovation and evolution of treatments that improve the quality of life for people living with T1D.
Vision:Â A world without T1D
Mission:Â Improving lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications
Today: We are Breakthrough T1D. Recognizing that JDRF wasn’t reflective of both type 1 diabetes and the T1D community, we have refreshed our name to meet our mission where it already is.
Our purpose is our north star: As we drive toward curing type 1 diabetes, we help to make every day better for the people living with it.
Working toward a world without T1D
Breakthrough T1D works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever being diagnosed with it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and improved access, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community.
Thanks to these better therapies, which our funding has been instrumental in helping to develop and make available – people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await cures.
We must keep up the pace of funding so progress doesn’t slow or stop entirely, so we can get to a world free from type 1 diabetes.

Canadian Liver Foundation
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Joined Dec 27, 2025
Our Vision -Â A world without liver disease.
Our Mission -Â Bringing liver research to life for all Canadians
Through research, we are able to improve prevention, screening, diagnostics and treatments in order to reduce the incidence and impact of liver disease.
Research is the key to minimizing the impact on people affected by liver diseases, but it’s only as good as its practical application. Through our advocacy, education and patient support efforts, we share the knowledge gained through research to improve the lives of liver disease patients and protect others who are at risk. At the same time, we seek to eliminate the barriers that may limit patients’ access to research breakthroughs.
Our Mandate - The Canadian Liver Foundation’s mandate is to promote liver health and reduce the incidence and impact of liver disease by providing support for research and education into the causes, diagnoses, prevention and treatment of liver disease.

IWK Auxiliary
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Joined Dec 27, 2025
For over 70 years, the IWK Auxiliary has been raising money for patient comfort items and programs within the IWK Health Centre. What does this mean? Here are just a few of the amazing ways the Auxiliary has provided essential and often groundbreaking help to the IWK’s children, youth and families, and the staff who care for them:
Funds the operational budget of the IWK Family Library which provides reliable
health information to parents; it is a pleasant family space with Internet access
Financially supports the IWK Rehabiliative Equipment Loan program which lends adaptive equipment to children with special needs so that they can be active
Purchases movies, games and consoles, books and TVs for floors throughout the
IWK Health Centre; toys for Child Life specialists to give to patients on birthdays
Has provided funding to many innovative IWK programs to help children/youth:
Read to Me (books for newborn babies); Music Therapy; the Playgarden and more!
The Auxiliary annually brings the IWK community together with our Kermesse fundraising fair held in May. This event raises funds for IWK patient care items and programs — all while giving IWK families and the public a really fun experience. We especially need volunteers every year to set up and take down tables at our Kermesse Flea Market, and to run children's games. Please help!
The IWK Health Centre is a children's, youth & women's hospital for all the Maritime provinces.
IWK Health Foundation
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Joined Dec 27, 2025
The IWK Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to support IWK Health—the largest pediatric hospital and trauma centre in Atlantic Canada. IWK Health is also one of only two health centres in Canada that cares for both women and children.
As the primary fundraising partner with IWK Health, we want to ensure Maritime women, children, and families needing the advanced and specialized care of IWK Health have access to the highest level of care possible.
The funds raised through the generosity of our donor community help fund the IWK’s areas of greatest need, including purchasing new and advanced medical equipment, funding leading-edge research, and upgrading care spaces and technology.
