Atlantic Theravada Buddhist Cultural and Meditation Society, established in January 2015, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, thrives to institute Theravada Buddhism among a wider global community, by promoting traditional Buddhist culture and emotional and spiritual growth, while disseminating the teachings of the Buddha to all irrespective of nationality and age.
The work and programs of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene and its non-profit initiative Halifax Wedding Chapel serves the community at large. We provide worship services and places to worship and fellowship. We offer the Sacraments to all people. We support families, couples, individuals and groups with pastoral and spiritual care. We initiate non-sectarian community programs in order to make a difference in lives and spur acts of mercy, kindness and compassion. We support cultural and artistic programs that build community and bring joy to children, families and the elderly in the community at large.
Lion's Roar Foundation aims to provide the broadest-possible access to genuine Buddhist teachings, news from the Buddhist world, personal accounts of life on the Buddhist path, and Buddhist perspectives on the conversations shaping our modern world.
The Salvation Army (Fairview Citadel) is launching its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign from Nov 22-Dec 24, and is seeking volunteers to stand alongside our kettles at various locations in Bayers Lake, Fairview and Clayton Park. Volunteer shifts are only 2 hours.
The Salvation Army recognizes that poverty is a critical issue, and that everyone has a right to access basic necessities such as nutritious food, health care, education and economic opportunity.
100% of the funds raised from this campaign stay in the community and are used to support local Salvation Army Programs for people in need including family services, food baskets, emergency shelter and addictions counseling.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact Kettle Coordinator Devin Casario at 902.809.2769 or kettlecoordinator2014@gmail.com.
