From our main office in Halifax, we serve all Nova Scotians with lung disease through help from generous donors. Our focus is simple: offer the best programs and services in lung health possible, advocate for better lung health research and put the money we receive in areas that directly help Nova Scotians live healthier and breathe easier.
We are a research lab operating out of the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the IWK Health Centre. Our work explores the use of a mindfulness-based group intervention for 13-18 year old teens with unexplained chronic pain.
The Nova Scotia Aphasia Association is a non-profit organization that promotes public education, rehabilitation, and support services to assist people with aphasia and their families.
Aphasia is an acquired language processing disorder that challenges communication. Aphasia is caused by brain injury, usually stroke, but also head trauma, brain tumors and neurological disease. Aphasia affects the ability to use language: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding language.
NSAA’s Mission is to:
• To increase public awareness of adult aphasia and other language disorders affecting people after stroke and other brain injuries.
• To support and/or provide community programs for people with aphasia and/or language disorders: communication groups, and relearning for speech, writing and reading.
• To provide information about resources to recover lost skills to the extent possible, to compensate for skills that will not be recovered and to minimize the psychosocial impact of the language impairment.
Techsploration, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1998 because we believed if you want to make a change in the number of women working in these fields, you have to reach the young women. Techsploration directly addresses this.
Techsploration provides young women from grades nine through twelve with opportunities to explore science, trades and technology occupations, while creating awareness about the critical role of work in their lives. It also helps them understand the significance of high school math and science for their future careers.
The Conseil de développement économique de la Nouvelle-Écosse (CDÉNÉ) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the economic advancement of the Acadian and Francophone community in Nova Scotia. Founded in 1999, it is the only provincial Francophone economic development organization in Nova Scotia.
The CDÉNÉ delivers solutions to businesses, not-for-profit organizations, job seekers, economic immigrants and communities to ensure their economic success. The CDÉNÉ offers the following services to the Acadian and francophone community : employment assistance, community economic development, entrepreneurship, youth entrepreneurship, economic immigration and training. The Association of Volunteer Management Professionals Nova Scotia (VMPNS) is a provincial association for professionals and leaders working in the field of volunteer resource management. We promote competence and excellence in the leadership of volunteers by fostering collaboration and networking, promoting professional development and certification, and offering mentorship and knowledge exchange. We are committed to providing advocacy to advance and strengthen the volunteer management profession in Nova Scotia.
HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development is a dynamic and innovative not-for-profit, registered charity focused on creating meaningful youth engagement to build healthy communities. We have provided our services within Nova Scotia since 1988; we also have affiliations and partnerships nationally and have delivered programs across the country and internationally. Currently we are looking for new volunteers for our Board of Directors.
HeartWood’s mission is “youth engagement for positive community change.” We do this by Helping Youth to positively engage in their communities and develop their skills and capacity to take action and make change; training and coaching adults in youth engagement strategies and tools; working directly with larger systems over an extended period of time to improve their youth engagement strategies and inform their policies to better serve youth.
Oktoberfest is a cultural festival organized to unite the community in celebration of German heritage. Launched in 2009, the Halifax Oktoberfest attracts hundreds of locals and visitors alike to the Halifax Waterfront to enjoy authentic Bavarian cuisine, beverages, and music along with raising money for Charity!
This year, be sure to come on down to the Salter Lot for a day of giant pretzels, cold craft beer, dancing and games! There's the traditional tapping of the cask to kick off the festival, keg bowling, and live music by the Swell Guys and Die Brewmisters.
Proceeds from this event go to charity. Prosit!

We help people make a meaningful difference by creating opportunities to do good, by providing practical information on how to do good, and by inspiring and supporting each other to do good.
About Us
Our mission is to feed Nova Scotians in need and reduce that need.
To achieve this, we distribute 2 million kilograms of donated food to our member network of 147 food banks and meal programs across the province. But our role also extends beyond food. We support our members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and we help raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians.
