HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development is a dynamic and innovative not-for-profit, registered charity focused on creating meaningful youth engagement to build healthy communities. We have provided our services within Nova Scotia since 1988; we also have affiliations and partnerships nationally and have delivered programs across the country and internationally. Currently we are looking for new volunteers for our Board of Directors.
HeartWood’s mission is “youth engagement for positive community change.” We do this by Helping Youth to positively engage in their communities and develop their skills and capacity to take action and make change; training and coaching adults in youth engagement strategies and tools; working directly with larger systems over an extended period of time to improve their youth engagement strategies and inform their policies to better serve youth.
Lucasville Community Association is looking for volunteers to help paint a community recreation center inside. This should be a 1 day only if we have many hands. The start date of this project is December 12/2015 at 8:30 am.

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking volunteers for Halifax and surrounding area.
Oktoberfest is a cultural festival organized to unite the community in celebration of German heritage. Launched in 2009, the Halifax Oktoberfest attracts hundreds of locals and visitors alike to the Halifax Waterfront to enjoy authentic Bavarian cuisine, beverages, and music along with raising money for Charity!
This year, be sure to come on down to the Salter Lot for a day of giant pretzels, cold craft beer, dancing and games! There's the traditional tapping of the cask to kick off the festival, keg bowling, and live music by the Swell Guys and Die Brewmisters.
Proceeds from this event go to charity. Prosit!

We help people make a meaningful difference by creating opportunities to do good, by providing practical information on how to do good, and by inspiring and supporting each other to do good.
About Us
Our mission is to feed Nova Scotians in need and reduce that need.
To achieve this, we distribute 2 million kilograms of donated food to our member network of 147 food banks and meal programs across the province. But our role also extends beyond food. We support our members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and we help raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians.
Established in 1985, under the leadership of Dr. John Savage, The Dartmouth Learning Network Society provides opportunities for adults and their family members to improve reading, writing, math, communication, document use, computer use, teamwork and critical thinking skills, in addition to helping them gain a love of life-long learning.
We offer programs for:
• Adults, 19 years of age and older looking to gain new skills, their adult high school diploma, their General Education Development (GED) equivalency.
• Adults, 19 years of age and older looking for help to gain employment
• Adults with learning differences or challenges looking to gain new skills
• Parents, caregivers, childcare centres and community members looking to ensure children achieve success in school.
The Dartmouth Learning Network Community Learning Team is made up of a small compliment of staff (four full-time and three part-time), supported by over 40 trained volunteers. We work with people 1-1, in small groups and classroom settings and at our location on Wyse Road and at partner sites throughout Halifax Regional Municipality. Our volunteers provide $104,000 in unpaid service to the Dartmouth Learning Network every year
The mission of AHANS is to promote access to decent and affordable housing through its development and construction, retention and upgrading in all parts of the Province.
Decent, affordable and sustainable housing is a basic human right and the first step toward personal, social, economic and cultural well-being and empowerment. The foremost concern of the Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia (AHANS), is the affordability, accessibility, and sustainability of the Province's housing stock as a whole.
AHANS aims for strategic impacts on all of Nova Scotia's housing: urban and rural; public, private and non-profit; from shelters to rental housing and private homes; and from new housing to the existing stock. We make the most of each opportunity by looking for ways to be broadly inclusive, multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary. We are guided by the principles of 'Do No Harm' and the 'Double Bottom Line', believing that what's sufficient is never enough, knowing that beyond the basics greater benefits can always be found.
