The Rotary Club of Halifax North West is part of Rotary International, an organization of 1.2 million people in 33,000 Clubs, in over 200 countries around the world. The focus of our Club is support of charitable causes serving youth and the elderly and persons at risk. Locally, our support is focused on the Spryfield area in Halifax, but our Club is also involved in international projects which support the global community. Our main source of funding is a 50/50 draw in Spryfield called Toonies for Change, in which participants register a player number and play a Toonie a week. The project is very well supported by the community in the form of volunteers who devote their time each week in the operation of the project. That said, there is a need for part-time managerial and administrative support.

Dalhousie University has two research ethics boards that are responsible to review the ethical acceptability of research involving humans conducted by University faculty, students and others: the Health Sciences Research Ethics Board and the Social Sciences Research Ethics Board.

The Nova Scotia SPCA is an animal welfare organization committed to the protection of animals from cruelty.   The Nova Scotia SPCA supports and promotes protection for all animals from distress, humane education and operates no kill shelters where euthanasia is only considered for mercy or aggression.  The NS SPCA operates a net work of six animal shelters across the Province, education services, animal protection programs, trap neuter and release programs and spay/neuter services for low income families.  The SPCA relies on community support to fund its programs.

VON is a not for profit organization delivering both home care and community support services. It's more than 5000 employees and 9000 volunteers deliver health care and health promotion services in communities and homes, contributing to better health and improved quality of life for Canadians

Independent Living provides persons with disabilities control and choice within the community. Independent Living is a movement that enables persons with disabilities to remove social and environmental barriers through a variety of programs, services, and events.

Open Harbour works to sponsor a refugee group to begin a new life in Halifax each year. A sponsorship starts on the day of arrival and extends for the 12 months afterward. It includes financial, social, and emotional support. We greet our new Nova Scotians at the airport, set them up with a furnished apartment, enroll them in job training and English classes, help them get to medical appointments, register their children in school - and a lot more!  OUR MISSION To privately sponsor and resettle refugees to Halifax irrespective of circumstances or creed.  To coordinate the settlement, integration, and empowerment of the new Nova Scotians we sponsor.  To spread awareness of issues affecting refugees.

Our Mission: We exist to empower persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and those at risk through health promotion and mutual support, and to reduce the spread of HIV in Nova Scotia. Our Vision: The AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia is a PHA-centered, community leader committed to the creation of a positive, safe and caring environment. We celebrate and share the experiences and lives of PHA and those affected by HIV/AIDS. We celebrate ourselves through our history, the telling of our stories and living courageous lives. We demonstrate courage and commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS. ACNS believes in: - The need for a sustainable, committed and coordinated response to HIV/AIDS. - Learning as an important, ongoing process, fundamental to our growth. - Advocating for a just and compassionate society. As the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia envisions and fights for a cure, we strive to promote holistic quality of life. ACNS will respond to the changes and challenges by ensuring qualified, compassionate human resources, funding, education and commitment to health promotion.

We, at Atlantic Kite Festivals believe in bringing communities together by celebrating festivals. Our journey started in year 2013 where few of the friends started celebrating various events based on major festivals in South East Asia. By looking at participation from local communities we kept adding more and more events in our catalogue. One Day, Few kids came to our event, Halifax Colour Festival with kites and that’s where idea came from to start Kite Festivals in Atlantic Region. The plan was long due and we did our first ever Kite Festival at Citadel Hill in 2017. And in the same year we did another kite festival at Rissers Beach with Sand castle competition. After these two successful events and reviews from participants, we decided to start doing more festivals like this in Atlantic Canada. In 2019, we have planned four Kite Festivals in Nova Scotia in partnership with various municipalities and sand castle competitions. And also we will be doing our own Kite Festival at Citadel Hill which we have made an annual event which will occur in Every Second week of July. We, at Atlantic Kite Festival love to see smiles on kids faces when they see these huge kites in the air. It’s even fun to fly. Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Established in July 2019, Shelter Movers Nova Scotia (SMNS) is made up of a growing team of dedicated volunteers helping to ensure an immediate and lasting impact on survivors in the province. With headquarters in the Halifax Regional Municipality and two rural extensions in the Annapolis Valley and the South Shore, SMNS offers our services to over 60% of the Nova Scotian population.

Our Vision - A world without liver disease. Our Mission - Bringing liver research to life for all Canadians Through research, we are able to improve prevention, screening, diagnostics and treatments in order to reduce the incidence and impact of liver disease. Research is the key to minimizing the impact on people affected by liver diseases, but it’s only as good as its practical application. Through our advocacy, education and patient support efforts, we share the knowledge gained through research to improve the lives of liver disease patients and protect others who are at risk. At the same time, we seek to eliminate the barriers that may limit patients’ access to research breakthroughs. Our Mandate - The Canadian Liver Foundation’s mandate is to promote liver health and reduce the incidence and impact of liver disease by providing support for research and education into the causes, diagnoses, prevention and treatment of liver disease.

Welcome Housing & Support Services is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides long term, secure housing and support to low income, single individuals. Formerly known as Metro Non-Profit Housing Association, we have a long-standing and recognized commitment to the community we serve. Not only do we support men and women obtain and maintain stable housing solutions, we also serve as advocates for social issues effecting our community (including safe, affordable housing and poverty-related issues).

About the Orginization: Since 1993, the Royal City Soccer Club has hosted unique soccer camp experiences for thousands of boys and girls at all levels of soccer. We are a registered non-profit community organization registered in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.  We originated our programs in Guelph, hence, the Royal name. Through popular demand our camps have quickly grown to over 100 different locations across Canada. We look forward to continue offering unique soccer camp experiences for youth in Canada. Role of the Volunteer:  Volunteers are often our former campers but volunteering is open to virtually anyone 14 years or older. Being a volunteer is often the first step towards becoming a full staff member with us. Volunteers are treated like staff and expected to maintain a good work ethic by assisting all staff onsite and providing a fun and safe learning atmosphere for campers. Volunteer Shifts: Volunteers are expected to be at camp according to one of three pre-determined shifts according to your application. A letter confirming hours of volunteering is available on completion if requested. Mornings 8:30am -12:30pm Afternoons 12:30pm to 4:30pm Full Days 8:30am to 4:30pm Morning or afternoon sessions are approximately 4 hours/day (20 hours/week) and full day sessions are 8 hour/day (40 hours/week).
