Canada Connects is a program that matches newcomer families or individuals with long-time Canadians or settled immigrants to help them settle and adjust to their new home. Join Canada Connects• Be matched with a newcomer individual or family to provide support throughout the program• Meet with your match once a week for approximately 2 hours, with a commitment of 3 months to 1 year• Share your knowledge, build meaningful connections, and help newcomers settle into life in Canada• Join a network of dedicated volunteers and connect with others making a differenceEligibility: Volunteers must demonstrate English proficiency above CLB 4 and have lived in Nova Scotia for a minimum of 18 months. The CUSP Program serves youth between the ages of 12-18 in the community through skill-building workshops, volunteering events, and free valuable training (e.g., First-Aid, and Babysitting Training). Mentors are adults (+18) who serve as living examples of the skills we’re trying to instill in the CUSP Program participants. They’ll be encouraging, guiding, and inspiring youth. Mentors are onboarded during the early weeks of the cohorts and stay from beginning to completion. They’ll attend the CUSP Program weekly, choosing shifts in accordance with availability, as well as attend volunteering events.

Results is an advocacy nonprofit that believes in mobilizing everyday people (our volunteers) to generate the political will to end extreme poverty in low-and middle-income countries. We focus our work on global health, access to quality education and economic opportunities. We direct our energy and efforts at government decision makers like party leaders, Members of Parliament and senators because they have the power to improve policies and make the monetary investments needed to end extreme poverty. We also raise awareness by writing letters to the editor (LTEs) and op-eds, using social media, fundraising and more. Oftentimes the first step is putting these issues on the radar — and keeping the pressure on. It might seem like a small step, but it all adds up into impact. commitment: 1 year minimum, 1-2 hours per week on average support structure: Volunteers (virtually) meet in local groups on a monthly basis and rely on their group leader(s) for guidance. As a MARS volunteer you may be asked to support MARS’ marine animal response operations under the direction of a MARS Responder in response to incidents in the Maritime Provinces. Since the work that MARS does can vary, volunteers may be asked to assist response for incidents involving dead or distressed cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises), seals, sharks and other large marine wildlife. Occasionally, there are also opportunities to help in other ways, such as with public outreach. These opportunities will be communicated in advance.Anyone 18+ in the Maritime provinces can volunteer with MARS – no experience or prior training is required. We have dedicated groups who help year after year, including ICE Cheerleading, the Shriners, Kingsport Fitness and Wellness, Triton Swim, Horton D1 Girls Volleyball, and many individuals who make this event possible.
