Opportunity Description
The Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia (BIANS) is currently seeking 3–4 new volunteer members to join our Board of Directors.
BIANS is a registered charitable organization that has supported individuals and families affected by acquired brain injury (ABI) since 1989. We work across Nova Scotia to strengthen connection, support, and understanding for people living with brain injury and their caregivers, while helping communities and systems respond more effectively.
We are looking for individuals who are interested in community impact, governance, and supporting people and families affected by brain injury. We welcome individuals with a range of professional and lived experiences, including expertise in areas such as:
- Finance and accounting
- Fundraising and philanthropy
- Governance and nonprofit leadership
- Human resources
- Communications and marketing
- Legal or business experience
- Acquired brain injury, disability, caregiving, or community services
Board Commitment
Board members serve a two-year renewable term and are expected to participate in approximately nine board meetings per year, with most meetings held virtually. The estimated commitment is approximately 2–5 hours per month, depending on board and committee involvement.
This is a volunteer position. No financial compensation is provided.

The Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia (BIANS) is a registered charity supporting more than 70,000 Nova Scotians living with or impacted by acquired brain injury. BIANS provides education, connection, resources, programs, and support while working to increase awareness and improve responses to brain injury across the province.

Social & Community Services
Brain Injury NS is the only organized voice for the more than 70,000 brain injury survivors in Nova Scotia. Most of us know someone who has suffered from a concussion, had a stroke, an aneurysm, or been injured due to accident or violence. We work to help these individuals and their families navigate the healthcare system and offer opportunities to participate in our peer support and other programming so they know they aren't alone in their recovery.
We welcome volunteers from any region of the province to join us as peer support program leaders, event helpers, Committee members, or even to sit on our provincial Board of Directors.
