Description: Give a Breath 5k is the premier fundraising event in support of the Canadian lung cancer community. Funds raised contribute to support programs for those impacted by a lung cancer diagnosis as well as the advancement of research efforts to improve health outcomes. This year, we bring Give a Breath 5k to Shubie Park, on June 1, and we'd love your help! We will need volunteers between 8am (set up) and 3pm (tear down). Canadian Cancer Society Camp Goodtimes - Family Camp Volunteer

Description: Background: The Canadian Cancer Society Camp Goodtimes family camp provides an opportunity for families with a child diagnosed with cancer to reconnect, have fun and connect with a community who has similar experiences. Our scheduling includes time for rest and revitalization.   WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: At Camp Goodtimes we’re proud to have a diverse volunteer community varied in age, experience and backgrounds. We believe this makes for a strong and dynamic team that can help create special memories and experiences for all our campers.  People from all walks of life with a variety of abilities and interests are welcome.  To ensure the safety of our participants, volunteers must meet the following requirements: All volunteers must be at least 19 years of age - Volunteers must obtain a Police Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Verification - Are self-motivated and demonstrate positive values - Demonstrate enthusiasm and enjoy teamwork - Are flexible and willing to support where needed   WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:  Assigned to 1 or 2 families as a host - Spend time and engage the families in the activities of the weekend - Support families through activity transitions and connecting with other families - Will spend some time with the children of the families (with other hosts, children, and camp staff) without the parents/caregivers   YOUR COMMITMENT: Dates: May 24-26,   Location: Brigadoon Village in Aylesford, - Arrive to camp on Friday afternoon for training before families arrive, - Stay over night from Friday to Sunday - Departure is on Sunday early afternoon   PERKS OF VOLUNTEERING AT CAMP GOODTIMES:   Be a part of children and their families re-connecting with one another - Help provide recreation for families where kids can be kids and parents/caregivers can connect with others going through a similar experience - Encourage participants to develop skills through fun interactive activities - Experience the triumphs and joys of witnessing new goals being met and trying new things - Participate in the fun activities camp has to offer (archery, high ropes, paddling, etc.) - All meals and snacks for the weekend are provided. Halifax Wanderers 50/50 Volunteering in support of United Way Halifax

Description: Last year, we had 10+ volunteer groups selling 50/50 tickets at Halifax Wanderers games and it was a huge success - a total of $60,000 raised with a little over $30,000 being committed to the United Way Halifax Community Fund to support 35 community agencies in the Halifax Regional Municipality.  REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 15 volunteers, max 20. 2.5hours-3hours of volunteer time total. DUTIES: using a electronic 50/50 machines to capture debit or credit card payments (no cash is involved) - Soccer games are all-weather (except for when there is a storm/thunder & lightning, league will make the decision). United Way will contact the volunteer group 2-3 days before a match with reminders of location, timing & an update on the weather if needed New: This year, our volunteer tent will be supplied with tables, chairs & plenty of water for volunteers. We have added an extra +5 50/50 ticketing machines, and all volunteers will be provided with a highlighter-yellow vest for visibility on the grounds!

JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Halifax 2024

Description: Do you want to have a fun day outdoors while making a difference in the lives of 300, 000 Canadians who live with type 1 diabetes?   Are you great at customer service or like to play with kids or love a good walk?  This is the event for you!! Volunteer at this year’s JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, the largest fundraising event in Canada to support type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.   https://www.jdrfwalk.ca/   On Sunday, June 2nd we need the support of our committed volunteers to help make the day a success! Location:  Dewolf Park, 150 Waterfront Dr., Bedford, Nova Scotia, B4A 4J4 Time:  From 9:00am to 3:00PM for the full day but times will be assigned. We have a variety of roles for both youth and adult volunteers. Roles will be allocated up to the day of event, here’s some examples of the types of roles.  Set Up Crew (early start at 7am) The set up crew will assist in setting up tables & chairs within the tents (note some heavy lifting required), and hanging banners.     Volunteer greeter crew These volunteers will be in the volunteer tent to greet volunteers, give them their t-shirts and answer questions pertaining to their roles. Check-in/Registration  Become part of the Check-In Crew where you will warmly greet our walkers, ensure they have completed a waiver, give them their bracelets and swag and direct them to the event or to further registration if needed. Refreshment Crew  Become part of the Refreshment Crew and help us set up the refreshment tent.  You will distribute prepackaged snacks and drinks throughout the day, monitor their levels and replenish them as needed.  Kids Zone Crew  This role will assist in the kid activities space (may include: temporary tattoo application, frisbee toss, bubble creators etc.)  Route Marshalls Assist with directing participants along the walk route. This role includes cheering on the walkers, ensuring people can navigate the site and handing out water and snacks to participants when required Clean up Crew  This role will consist of a team of volunteers who will roam around the site, ensuring surfaces are sanitized and the site is kept clean of debris and garbage.  Replacing garbage bins that are full and ensuring bottles and juice boxes are placed in blue bags.   Tear Down Crew  We need your help after the walk to take down the event.  The take down crew will occur from 2-4pm.  Note: some heavy lifting will be required in this role. Outreach Coordinator
