Trade School is a self-organised space for alternative education. People from all backgrounds, abilities and ages are invited to both share their skills and learn from others. We want to make education accessible and create a space for building community and resilience.
Pathways to Education Spryfield reduces poverty and its effects by lowering the drop out rate among high school students from economically disadvantaged communities. Pathways works to increase high school graduation rates and help youth pursue post-secondary education and/or find meaningful employment.
Pathways to Education is hosted through Chebucto Connections.
S.T.A.R. (Share the Art of Reading) is a new program directed by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax (Dartmouth North) site. It is a joint project of the Dartmouth North Association, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Halifax School Board and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax. S.T.A.R. is a play-based tutoring program designed to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of the students in Primary-Grade 3 at the Harbour View Elementary School. It operates during the noon hour on Wednesdays and Fridays as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays after school

Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada, the organization of choice for girls and women, makes a positive difference in the life of every girl and woman who experiences Guiding so she can contribute responsibly to her communities. We enable girls to be confident, resourceful and courageous, and to make a difference in the world.
Halifax South District is a group of nine Girl Guide units with girls aged 5-years to 17-years in the South End of Halifax.
JA Nova Scotia provides hands-on experiential learning in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. Programs focus on three educational pillars: financial literacy, workplace readiness, and entrepreneurship. JA recruits volunteers from the business community to collaborate on the delivery of programs, which exposes students to real world business perspectives and ideas.

As a Junior Achievement volunteer, you bring the real world of work to students by facilitating our hands-on, interactive learning experiences. Junior Achievement programs are brought to life with your investment of time and expertise, are fun to deliver, and provide immediate feedback and satisfaction. JA of Nova Scotia provides the training, materials and support to make your volunteer experience fun, meaningful and easy to deliver, at no cost to schools or groups.
The Bedford- Sackville Learning Network is a Community Learning Organization within the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education. We provide free classroom instruction and tutoring services to adults who wish to upgrade their reading, writing, math, and computer skills. Most of our learners are adults who haven’t achieved their high school diploma.
We are conducting a research study to learn more about pulses (beans and peas) in child nutrition.
Established in 1985, under the leadership of Dr. John Savage, The Dartmouth Learning Network Society provides opportunities for adults and their family members to improve reading, writing, math, communication, document use, computer use, teamwork and critical thinking skills, in addition to helping them gain a love of life-long learning.
We offer programs for:
• Adults, 19 years of age and older looking to gain new skills, their adult high school diploma, their General Education Development (GED) equivalency.
• Adults, 19 years of age and older looking for help to gain employment
• Adults with learning differences or challenges looking to gain new skills
• Parents, caregivers, childcare centres and community members looking to ensure children achieve success in school.
The Dartmouth Learning Network Community Learning Team is made up of a small compliment of staff (four full-time and three part-time), supported by over 40 trained volunteers. We work with people 1-1, in small groups and classroom settings and at our location on Wyse Road and at partner sites throughout Halifax Regional Municipality. Our volunteers provide $104,000 in unpaid service to the Dartmouth Learning Network every year.

The Discovery Centre is a non-profit, registered charitable organization that is passionate about its mission to bring STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) to life through fun, interactive learning experiences.
From its beginnings as a travelling science show to its spectacular new home on the Halifax Waterfront, the Discovery Centre has grown a lot over 30 years of operation.
But through it all, the Discovery Centre has stayed true to its vision: using its facility, people and passion to demonstrate how STEAM can empower our youth, grow Nova Scotia’s knowledge-based economy and inspire an innovative culture by showcasing our best and brightest.
The Halifax Community Learning Network is a community-based non-profit organization that provides literacy programs to adults in partnership with Halifax Public Libraries. Volunteer tutors are needed to work one-on-one with adults who want to improve their reading, writing, math, or other essential life skills. Requirements: Grade 12 education or more; excellent oral and written communication skills in English; ability to commit to a scheduled two-to-three hour weekly time commitment for at least six months; an understanding of the needs of the learner and the challenges they have had in the learning process; patience and flexibility to support the learning needs of the learner as some learners take longer to reach their goals than others; creativity in developing lesson plans to motivate and engage the learner; and effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds.
Tutoring can be a very rewarding experience. It can give you the opportunity to make a real difference in a person’s life, and enrich your own. We will provide you with training, resources and on-going support.
At the Connelly Laboratory for Organizational Behaviour Research, we study how workplaces are changing and how employees are reacting to these changes. We focus on workers who are often overlooked: part-time workers, independent contractors, “temps”, mobile workers, temporary foreign workers and workers with disabilities.
Maritime Muslim Academy (MMA) is an independent educational institution based on Islamic principles, whose mission is to educate students intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially in a trusting and caring Islamic environment. The Academy offers standard educational programs like any other school in Canada and also offers Quran and Arabic as well as the basic teaching in Islamic beliefs, principles, and values.
The Academy was founded in 1984 to serve the Muslim community in the Halifax/Dartmouth area. It is one of the earliest Islamic schools established in Canada and is the only Islamic school in Atlantic Canada. MMA offers private educational services to students from September to June, a total of 195 teaching days/year, and provides full-time teaching at all stages of education: Preschool, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High. English is the main language of instruction, however, Arabic and French are taught as second languages.
