The Navy League Cadet Corps are managed and supervised by adult volunteers who are enrolled as Navy League Officers or Navy League Instructors. Officers are granted warrants by the League, wear naval pattern uniforms and use naval ranks followed by a Navy League (NL) designator. Navy League Officers are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces. All Navy League volunteers are provided opportunities for development of skills that will undoubtedly benefit you in your career as well. These include home study and weekend training in leadership and instructional techniques.

The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) 2023 will bring together more than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team staff from 756+ Indigenous Nations celebrating, sharing and reconnecting through sport and culture with the help of 3,000 volunteers.

FIN Atlantic International Film Festival has blossomed into one of Canada’s premier celebrations of film and filmmaking, becoming an essential platform for films both local and global. Celebrating its 42nd year in 2022, the festival began as a tiny, grassroots operation in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1981, relocating to Halifax the following year. Providing an immersive escape and experience for movie lovers, filmmakers, and industry professionals worldwide, the Atlantic International Film Festival is Atlantic Canada’s curator of epic and unforgettable stories.

Shakespeare by the Sea excites the audience with the wonder of words and the unique joy of live performance, while shedding light on the human condition with the greatest plays in the English language, in great settings, for a great price (pay what you can!). Our outdoor summertime home is The Cambridge Battery in Point Pleasant Park, a large urban park in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This season, we are presenting Cinderelly (The Musical) and Hamlet (Prince of Denmark), and are looking for volunteers to help with front-of-house set-up and take-down. This is a great way to get involved with local theatre, while also getting to witness very cool and fun shows! It also looks great on the resume. We can't wait to work with you :)

We are a bilingual organization, working in English and in french.

The Westend Community Food Bank is a volunteer operated food bank.  We are located on 3495 McAlpine Street, in the neighbourhood between the Fairview Cemetery and the West End Mall in Halifax.  We are open on Thursday mornings from 8:30 until noon and have approximately 125 clients who we distribute food to each week.

The Mobile Food Market brings healthy, affordable, high quality foods to Halifax neighbourhoods with limited access.

The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo started with a drumbeat and the skirl of the pipes on June 28, 1979. First held to celebrate the International Gathering of the Clans (and opened by The Queen Mother) the Tattoo quickly became a beloved event on the summer calendar and has evolved into a week-long spectacle proudly supported by the Canadian Armed Forces, the Government of Canada, the Province of Nova Scotia, the City of Halifax, and many corporate partners. This two-and-a-half-hour show features the best of the best pipes, drums, bands, dancers, singers, choirs, acrobats, military pomp and historical displays anywhere in Atlantic Canada. There’s something for everyone at the Tattoo! Aside from being a part of one of the most exciting summer events in Halifax, you will come away with a sense of pride and patriotism by having contributed to the success of this world-renowned event. You will meet people from many different countries and no doubt make many new friends.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Want to gain experience working at a film festival that celebrates diversity and cultural heritage right here in Halifax? My East Coast Experience Media is looking for volunteers to help at the 4th Mosaic International Film Festival. The festival will be taking place on Sunday, March 26, from 11am to 5pm, at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. About the festival: The Mosaic International Film Festival, presented by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, is a celebration of diversity in Halifax. It’s a forum for unique storytelling. A platform for filmmakers worldwide to share their stories, experiences, and cultural identities with the people of Nova Scotia, Canada, through the art of film. Founded as a local event for filmmakers to promote their work, it has since evolved into an international festival, bringing together a broad range of cultures from around the world. Today, the festival is aimed at providing an immersive and educational experience to those involved in the filmmaking industry, as well as aspiring filmmakers and artists. Volunteering at the festival: Volunteer duties will include: Greeting and checking in guests Providing wayfinding services throughout the festival venue Setting up and taking down corporate banners Managing wireless microphones for panelists and audience members Providing general operational support (runners that will be on hand to support with general needs) Volunteer work will be split into two 4-hour volunteer shifts. Volunteers will be required to work on one of the following shifts: Shift 1: 10am - 2pm Shift 2: 1:30pm - 5:30pm What we’re looking for: Enthusiastic individuals who are committed to the tasks they are assigned, and who would like to get some first-hand experience at what it takes to run a film festival.
