AdvocacyPosition OverviewAdvocacy volunteers are passionate voices for the six million people in Canada living with arthritis. These volunteers make their voices heard by campaigning for healthy public policy during federal and provincial elections, promoting arthritis initiatives through social media, writing letters to and meeting with elected officials, and participating in government consultations and other important advocacy calls to action.Time CommitmentAdvocacy volunteers typically contribute 1–2 hours per month This is a flexible role with no fixed schedule Volunteer engagement may vary depending on campaign needs throughout the yearKey Areas of Responsibility Work with Arthritis Society Canada to amplify strategic campaigns championing arthritis-related issues Use various online methods to reach elected officials, healthcare professionals, and the wider public Attend public events to advocate for people affected by arthritis Join local or national patient groups to further advocacy efforts Contribute to letter-writing campaigns, social media engagement, and government consultations Desired Skills & Attributes Passionate about improving the lives of those affected by arthritis Strong interest in public policy, health advocacy, or community engagement Comfortable using email and social media platforms to take action Good written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and respond to time-sensitive advocacy initiatives Lived experience with arthritis or connection to someone affected is an asset Availability & Working Environment Advocacy roles are available across Canada, at both local and national levels This is primarily a remote opportunity, with occasional in-person options available. We rely on volunteers to help get food onto the tables of those in Halifax who are unable to prepare nutritious meals for themselves.Do you have 2-3 hours per week to help us in our mission? We are looking for drivers and runners on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday mornings for deliveries. Choose a weekly route, or substitute on an on call basis.You can even try us on by accompanying an experienced team on a run before you start.

As a MARS volunteer you may be asked to support MARS’ marine animal response operations under the direction of a MARS Responder in response to incidents in the Maritime Provinces. Since the work that MARS does can vary, volunteers may be asked to assist response for incidents involving dead or distressed cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises), seals, sharks and other large marine wildlife. Occasionally, there are also opportunities to help in other ways, such as with public outreach. These opportunities will be communicated in advance.Anyone 18+ in the Maritime provinces can volunteer with MARS – no experience or prior training is required. Catapult is a world-class program designed to give youth a life-changing opportunity to discover their potential, take charge of their lives and become empowered to make a difference. The program is a combination of inspiring presentations and exciting activities set in an atmosphere of fun and friendship. Our leadership program is offered absolutely free to 50 Nova Scotia students entering Grade 10 in September who have been nominated by their school because they have natural leadership qualities and the potential to become strong leaders but who would not normally have access to this type of opportunity due to circumstance such as economics, loss of family, geographic isolation, racial barriers, etc.We are currently looking for camp counselors. Our camp counselors are volunteer mentors who become role models to the youth in our program. They work both independently and as a team to provide a stable, positive and often life-changing experience for our youth. This is a volunteer position – meals, accommodations and supplies are covered by Catapult and there is an honourarium of $800.Catapult Camp – Monday, August 10 – Wednesday, August 19, 2026. (2 days of training Aug 10/11) At Camp Counselors are expected to:· Actively participate during on-site training before camp begins· Work cooperatively with the staff team to create a memorable experience· Help with both set up and tear down of camp· Get to know all campers and encourage timid campers to participate· Participate in daily staff meetings· Assist teaching resources as needed and actively participate in programming· Monitor youth wakeups and curfews· Provide general supervision and discipline· Facilitate free time options· Moderate daily Family Shares
