As a Community Coordinator, you would help recruit people to be a part of our team, actively participate in meetings and events, form partnerships with schools and organizations, and learn more about climate change through our website. SUMMER CAMP VOLUNTEER 2022

Description: Position: Volunteer   Organization: Royal City Soccer Club   Location:  Halifax, Darmouth   About Us: The Royal City Soccer Club (RCSC) is a non-profit, community organization started in 1993. For 3 decades, we have hosted a unique soccer camp experience for over 300,000 children between ages 5 and 13 years. Our camps are now the largest grassroots soccer camp in Canada with over 100 locations in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia. The popularity of our camps is not only due to our program structure, but also because of the great volunteers and staff we have. Our camp operates Monday to Friday from July 4 until September 2, 2022 (except August 1).   About the position:   Volunteers can apply for: morning sessions (20 hours/week, Mon-Fri, 8:30am – 12:30pm), afternoon sessions (20 hours/week, Mon-Fri, 12:30pm – 4:30pm) or full days sessions (40 hours/week, Mon-Fri, 8:30am – 4:30pm) All nine (9) weeks of July and August are available to volunteer for.  Volunteers at our summer day camps may have any of the following responsibilities: Assisting staff with coaching and supervising children at camp Equipment collection and maintenance (ie. inflating soccer balls, collecting cones) General help around camp Maintain a clean camp environment and help staff meet all safety protocols Adhere to and help enforce all camp policies   Qualities we’re looking for:   Enjoys soccer and sporting activities Great with children (ages 5 to 13 years) Energetic and enthusiastic Responsible and reliable   Eligibility: Volunteers at our camp must be at least 14 years of age by the time their camp week of volunteering starts.  If you are 16 or older, you may be eligible for a CIT (Counsellor in Training) or Camp Counsellor position with us.  Any volunteers aged 18 or older will be required to submit a police background check.  There are a limited number of volunteering spots available at each camp location.   How to apply: Visit our website at royalsoccer.com and follow these 5 steps: Visit our STAFF section. Description: Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia Volunteer Opportunity   Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia (GBSNS)  is on its way to incorporating as a nonprofit organization.  The vision of our Society is that green burial  and other eco-friendly disposition practices are the preferred choice for Nova Scotians.   GBSNS  works to raise awareness and accessibility of green burial options in Nova Scotia.  Through education and advocacy we help Nova Scotians understand and recognize the environmental benefits of green burial.   Green burial is the act of returning a body as naturally as possible to the earth using less energy and resources, making it lower impact than conventional burials or cremation.  Green burials are also less toxic, reduce carbon emissions, and protect worker health.  Green burial minimizes environmental impacts, conserves and can even restore or preserve natural ecosystems.  It offers an opportunity to carry one's living values into death.   Board Secretary (Volunteer Role) The board secretary is a non-voting member of the board and reports to the Board.   Time Commitment 8-10 hours month (board meetings and secretarial duties as described below)   Term of Office Two years   Duties and Responsibilities The Secretary works closely with the Board Chair in the planning of board and Society meetings and is responsible for ensuring the creation and timely distribution of the board meeting agenda and Society membership meetings (AGM) the accurate recording and distribution of the minutes of board meetings.  The minutes should reflect the format and level of detail as required by the board the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date board planning calendar, outlining matters to be on the agenda over the course of a year (e.g. approval of budget, report on board recruitment, AGM, as well as key events board members are expected to attend) maintenance of a full contact list of board members including board member appointment dates, term of appointments and board member bios updating, maintaining and safe storage of the Association's minute book and other legal documents such as incorporation documents, bylaws, insurance policies and important contracts maintenance of an up-to-date list of members of the Society the accurate recording and distribution of the minutes of the Society's Annual General Meeting   Qualifications A clear understanding and a commitment to the mission of GBSNS Preferably at least one year of relevant experience of working with a nonprofit Board Knowledge of meeting procedures An adequate level of writing proficiency and access to a computer for word processing   For more information, please contact Theresa Farrell, Volunteer Co-Coordinator  theresafarrell1099@gmail.com February

Next Stop Canada Youth Mentor - Virtual

Description: Next Stop Canada Youth (NSCY) is a program that provides online settlement support, learning opportunities, and mentorship to pre-arrival youth ages 12 to 19 who are destined for Canada. This online program helps overseas youth prepare for immigration by providing them with the information, knowledge, and resources needed to quickly adapt and integrate into Canadian society. Major Duties May Include: Mentoring and chatting with pre-arrival youth to help them with their settlement needs.  Sharing immigration experience and providing practical settlement tips to pre-arrival youth. Working with other NSCY mentors to develop NSCY online content (blogs, vlogs). Attending monthly online meetings to further develop skills and provide input for NSCY. Assisting with meetings including facilitating discussions, and helping with virtual activity set-up. Completing mentor training. Time Commitment: Six months commitment which includes monthly online meetings, mentoring one hour per week and may include additional projects which can be completed virtually. Qualifications: Must be between the ages of 14 - 24. Successful applicants to this role will need to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid medical or other Human Rights Code-related exemption. Strong organizational skills. Experience and sensitivity dealing with people from different cultural, racial and socio-economic backgrounds. Demonstrate good technological experience and usage of social media tools (i.e. Facebook, Twitter) Responsible, punctual, outgoing and friendly while demonstrating a willingness to learn. Must demonstrate strong communication and team work skills. Experience working with newcomers or have life experience as a newcomer is an asset. Major Duties May Include: Under the direct supervision of YMCA staff, volunteers: Answer questions from pre-arrival immigrants and recommend resources to help them with their career and settlement needs  Respond to questions within one week. Share immigration experiences and provide practical settlement tips to pre-arrival professionals. Time Commitment:  Six-month commitment preferred Flexible hours; approximately four hours a month. Qualifications: Minimum age: 23 Life experience as a newcomer is a significant asset Post-secondary education and currently employed in specialized career industry (example: engineering, nursing, teaching, etc.) Volunteers must be certified in their career field if industry standards require it. Successful applicants to this role will need to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid medical or other Human Rights Code-related exemption.
