Description: We need YOU! We need your feedback on a new program about insomnia and how to sleep well without sleeping pills. These sessions are being held at the Alderney Gate Library in Dartmouth and the Halifax Central Library. As part of a small group, you will be asked to review and give feedback on Sleepwell’s online or print information. The topics include: insomnia, sleeping pills, and sleep therapy (CBTi). Door-to-door Canvasser with the Arthritis Society

We are looking for volunteers to join our Residential Campaign as canvassers throughout Nova Scotia during the month of September. Canvassing in our communities allows the Arthritis Society to raise awareness of arthritis, while helping us raise the funds necessary to help improve the quality of life of those living with arthritis, as we tirelessly work towards finding a cure. As a volunteer canvasser with our Residential Campaign, you will be responsible for soliciting  door-to-door donations on an assigned route, canvassing your friends and family, or hosting your own event to raise funds for the Arthritis Society.

Autism Nova Scotia – EmploymentWorks Canada – Peer Mentor

Description: EmploymentWorks Canada is an evidence-informed program for young adults with autism to build employment skills through community-based job sampling and work experience. Peer Mentors act as role models, help lead activities, and support participant goal development. Peer Mentors will be trained in the use of evidence-based teaching strategies such as Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Peer Mentors must be out of high school, and able to volunteer for 2.5 hours a week on Tuesdays from 9:00 – 11:30 am for 12 weeks. We are seeking volunteers for our next program cycle which will run from September 11th to November 30th. Oceanside Cafe Volunteer Opportunity

Description: Do you love interacting with people and brightening their day? Ocean View’s Oceanside Cafe and Gift Shop is in need of some volunteers to fill out our schedule and offer a friendly spot for residents, staff and visitors to gather and buy a snack, a gift or a meal. Volunteers will receive all of the training they need to feel right at home in the Cafe – you’ll ring in purchases, chat with customers, and help raise funds to support Ocean View. This is a great opportunity to develop retail experience, to give back to seniors in our community, and to socialize in an easy and fun volunteer role.

Adult Day Program Volunteer Opportunity - Eastern Passage

Description: Help us offer a safe environment for dependant adults 50+ to socialize and participate, while their caregivers have time to recharge and refocus. At the Adult Day Program, seniors engage in meaningful activities that ultimately support their ability to remain at home as long as possible. The program helps sustain and/or build existing life skills and supports, and reduces loneliness and isolation. You will work with a therapeutic recreation professional to offer programming specifically developed to meet the needs of these clients!

When you become detached mentally from yourself and concentrate on helping other people with their difficulties, you will be able to cope with your own more effectively. Somehow, the act of self-giving is a personal power-releasing factor.
