Summer Reading Tent Volunteers

Description: Are you enthusiastic and do you enjoy engaging children in fun and creative activities? Frontier College is a looking for dedicated, energetic & creative volunteers (16 and over) to support in our TD summer reading tent program over the months of July and August. The goal of the reading tent program is to address summer learning loss which is more prevalent in children who don't have as many opportunities to engage in literacy activities over the summer. Two Frontier College staff will take a mobile tent into various Halifax & Dartmouth communities where they will read many stories and do various fun and engaging activities with children. Enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy reading and are looking to gain some new leadership skills while working with children are encouraged to join us. Anyone can volunteer. Our training in late June will provide you with all the tools you need to be a successful reading tent volunteer.  We ask for a minimum weekly commitment of 2 hours and volunteers can choose the weekly program site that works best for them. Canadian Red Cross volunteer equipment cleaning and maintenance technician assistant.

Description: The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Equipment Cleaning and Maintenance volunteer for the Community Health department. Reporting to the Service Centre Coordinator this position will clean, maintain and preform basic repairs of Red Cross HELP equipment. Key Responsibilities Ensures that returned equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized. Performs basic maintenance on equipment Performs basic repairs as needed Understands and follows policies and procedures as per Community Health requirements Completes required Orientation and Training Qualifications Education and Experience: Previous maintenance and repair experience and/or  working with the repair and maintenance of health equipment would be an asset. This position requires a successful Canadian Police Record Check. Working Conditions 4 or more hours per week depending on availability. Description: Volunteer Board Member Opportunity – Halifax Transition House Association (Bryony House)  Halifax Nova Scotia Do you have an interest in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in your community that are experiencing domestic violence? Join our Board of Directors! The Halifax Transition House Association is a non-profit organization that provides 24-hour emergency services for women, with or without children, escaping intimate partner abuse. Bryony House is a 24-bed shelter where counsellors answer the 24-hour distress line, provide individual/group supportive counselling, public education, advocacy and referrals. The Association is entering an exciting time as the federal government has committed up to  three million dollars for construction of a new shelter that will better meet the needs of the families we serve. We are seeking new board members who are committed to advancing the mission statement and the vision of the organization while providing effective governance.  All members are expected to fully participate in monthly board meetings and orientation, serve on at least one committee, participate in the strategic planning and monitoring process, and conscientiously carry out his/her fiduciary responsibilities. JDRF Water Station at the EPIC Canadian Run Event - Grahams Grove Park, Dartmouth

We also have the opportunity to have a table with information on JDRF and T1D at the start/finish line of the race for day of donations. Dates and times to pick from are: Friday, June 29th from 6-8 p.m. and Sat., July 1st, 7-11 a.m. and Sunday, July 2nd 7:30 a.m. – noon. Volunteer for the Annual Welcome BBQ for Newcomers

Description: Hello dear friends,      We are once again ready for the 13th Annual Welcome BBQ in Halifax! This year's Welcome BBQ will be held on Saturday, July 21st, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. to 16:00 p.m., at the South Commons, Halifax.     We have free BBQ, food and beverage, music, exiting entertainments, and games lined up and plenty of volunteer opportunities available. motionball Halifax Marathon of Sport Event Volunteer!

Description: The motionball Marathon of Sport Halifax will see over 300 young professionals competing in a variety of recreational sports alongside local Special Olympics athletes! The event takes place at Emeral Oval from 9am - 4pm on Saturday July 21st and we need volunteers to help us organize sport stations and lead teams to and from events. This event is in it's 10th year and should be an incredible day!!! No experience required, all are welcome!

When you become detached mentally from yourself and concentrate on helping other people with their difficulties, you will be able to cope with your own more effectively. Somehow, the act of self-giving is a personal power-releasing factor.
