<p>The Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside was established in 1989 and today is a vibrant Club of 50+ members, representing a broad range of backgrounds and professions. As a group, we are committed to doing good locally and internationally, to personal and professional growth and development, and to having fun in everything we do.</p>

<p>Like all Rotary Clubs throughout the world, our Club's principal motto is <em>Service Above Self</em>. Rotary organizes projects around <em>Five Avenues of Service </em>– Club [capacity], Community, International, Youth and Vocational – to ensure service efforts are balanced and effective. Our Club's approach to service projects is to reflect our members’ passions in the projects that we pursue. We ask our members <em>"W</em><em>hat would you like to accomplish through Rotary?"</em> and go from there.</p>

<p>Our service projects are many and varied:</p>
<ul>
<li>We do larger multi-year projects like partnering with Hospice Halifax and St. George's YouthNet and have partners with whom we have done several projects in different years (The Themba Project in South Africa and the Father Tony / Pa Modou Hub in Gambia).</li>
<li>Each year we also also start new projects that are brought to us by Club members - for example, many of our members have volunteered at Halifax Connects for 2 years now because a new member said this was an important event that we should support.</li>
</ul>
<p>Our Club provides funds to our partners, but we believe we are at our best when we are directly engaged so, as much as possible, we engage as volunteers with the groups we support.</p>

<p>To fund our service projects, we conduct some smaller fundraisers (low effort) and 2 major fundraisers - our Mother's Day Brunch and the Halifax Ribfest. All our fundraisers have to be <em>fun and provide good returns</em>, and we focus on "pull" <em>fundraisers that draw people</em>.</p>

<p>Halifax Ribfest is happening Thursday, June 30th to Sunday, July 3rd on the Waterfront!</p>

Pathway to Progress Nicaragua is dedicated to supporting an innovative program in Nicaragua that provides educational opportunities for Nicaragua's most vulnerable sector: children and youth living in poverty.
Over 95% of the money that P2P raises goes directly to spending on this program in Nicaragua. We are giving students the chance for real academic success, and families living in poverty the hope of a better future for their children.Our deepest hope for all of them is that they will grow into responsible well-informed adults who can make a positive contribution to their country.

<strong>We provide shelter, essential items and technical assistance to help some of the world’s most vulnerable people recover and rebuild their homes after disaster.</strong>

We listen and adapt our support to the needs of each community, working together with those affected by disaster, alongside our supporters and partners.

ShelterBox teams work with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and other essential items to support them in rebuilding their lives.
