VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Want to gain experience working at a film festival that celebrates diversity and cultural heritage right here in Halifax? My East Coast Experience Media is looking for volunteers to help at the 4th Mosaic International Film Festival. The festival will be taking place on Sunday, March 26, from 11am to 5pm, at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. About the festival: The Mosaic International Film Festival, presented by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, is a celebration of diversity in Halifax. It’s a forum for unique storytelling. A platform for filmmakers worldwide to share their stories, experiences, and cultural identities with the people of Nova Scotia, Canada, through the art of film. Founded as a local event for filmmakers to promote their work, it has since evolved into an international festival, bringing together a broad range of cultures from around the world. Today, the festival is aimed at providing an immersive and educational experience to those involved in the filmmaking industry, as well as aspiring filmmakers and artists. Volunteering at the festival: Volunteer duties will include: Greeting and checking in guests Providing wayfinding services throughout the festival venue Setting up and taking down corporate banners Managing wireless microphones for panelists and audience members Providing general operational support (runners that will be on hand to support with general needs) Volunteer work will be split into two 4-hour volunteer shifts. Volunteers will be required to work on one of the following shifts: Shift 1: 10am - 2pm Shift 2: 1:30pm - 5:30pm What we’re looking for: Enthusiastic individuals who are committed to the tasks they are assigned, and who would like to get some first-hand experience at what it takes to run a film festival. The Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia is a collaborative and inclusive ​organizaiton of interested individuals, community groups, businesses, and governments focused on being a catalyst for multiculturalism in the province of Nova Scotia It is a volunteer driven, charitable, and culturally competent organization. In pursuit of its Mission and to achieve its Vision (stated below), MANS will: - Build awareness in Nova Scotia around multicultural issues. - Recognize, promote and celebrate multicultural successes through out Nova Scotia. - Advocate and champion multiculuralism so that policies and practices within government and other organizations reflect a high level of cultural competency. - Promote tools and resources that people and organizations can use to identify and respnd to emerging multicultural issues.

The Santa Paws Fundraiser is an annual fundraiser of the NS SPCA organized and implemented by volunteers of the NS SPCA. The NS SPCA is a not for profit organization that rescues  animals from dangerous and deplorable conditions across the province and provide them second chances; provides a safe haven for animals with nowhere else to go before finding their forever homes: food, bed, exercise, love, affection; Vets every animal that comes through the door including: spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping and overall health check; and works one-on-one with every animal to rebuild their trust in humans and ensure they are well prepared for the next stage of their life.

The Navy League Cadet Corps are managed and supervised by adult volunteers who are enrolled as Navy League Officers or Navy League Instructors. Officers are granted warrants by the League, wear naval pattern uniforms and use naval ranks followed by a Navy League (NL) designator. Navy League Officers are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces. All Navy League volunteers are provided opportunities for development of skills that will undoubtedly benefit you in your career as well. These include home study and weekend training in leadership and instructional techniques.

Nocturne: Art at Night is a fall festival that brings art and energy to the streets of Halifax between 6pm-midnight. It is an annual event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax and engages audiences with contemporary art throughout the city. Nocturne is designed and planned by volunteers to support and promote artists, galleries and art organizations, we aim to enrich the cultural, social, and economic vitality of our community by transforming art’s place in the city. One of the best ways to support the festival is to come out and lend a hand! Depending on your interest, you’ll get opportunities to interact with artists, board members and the general public. We need festival assistants and guides in different areas to help us with on the night of!

The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) 2023 will bring together more than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team staff from 756+ Indigenous Nations celebrating, sharing and reconnecting through sport and culture with the help of 3,000 volunteers.

The Northern Lights Lantern Festival Society exists to create a community-planned, environmentally friendly, intergenerational, culturally diverse, accessible event that celebrates and enhances the profile and image of the North End of Halifax. The Nova Multifest Society was established to support and celebrate our province’s rich tapestry of culture and diversity. Drawing inspiration from prominent Canadians, and building on Canada’s vision to be a progressive multicultural nation, our goal is to bring communities together by supporting diversity, inclusion, tolerance and positivity. Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is home to our annual Multifest celebration, an energetic festival of culture and diversity.  The Festival includes representation from Nova Scotia’s many cultures in the form of music, art, displays and lots of delicacies native to each culture. As a society we want to support diversity in communities throughout the province.  We offer our experience and support to communities looking to establish a multicultural festival in their city or town. By understanding and appreciation our cultural diversity we grow together as a province, opening doors for future generations.

The Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival (or Halifax Musical Festival, as it was known at that time) was launched in 1935 by a committee of dedicated music educators and supporters who wished to provide the young artists of our community with the opportunity to pursue their craft at a broader level.  The remarkable and continued success of this project has allowed us to continue since that time on an annual basis.
