Lake & Shore Community Recreation Society manages the municipal-owned recreation centre located at Inspiration Drive, Porters Lake. The Centre provides recreation, sport, cultural and social activities for the Eastern Shore region in a beautiful facility.
Athletics Nova Scotia is a non-profit amateur sport governing body affiliated with Athletics Canada, and a member organization of Sport Nova Scotia. The purpose of the Association is to develop, coordinate and promote track & field, road running and cross country running in Nova Scotia as outlined in our constitution
Our Legacy
The Canada Games Centre was built as the legacy of the 2011 Winter Canada Games. In February of 2011, the Centre hosted the badminton, syncronised swimming and artistic gymnastics events.
The Canada Games Centre is now a community recreation centre open to the public. We’re a privately operated facility run by a non-profit society that seeks to promote fitness and wellness in our community. The Centre runs recreation programs, camps, fitness classes and much more.
Our History
As one of the showcase venues for the 2011 Canada Winter Games, the Canada Games Centre is a vibrant and lasting legacy of this National event. Today, it’s Halifax’s newest fitness, aquatic, & recreation facility, established to integrate both the need for high performance sport & athlete development, while promoting recreation and wellness within our community.

Special Olympics Nova Scotia is dedicated to enriching the lives of Nova Scotians with an intellectual disability – through sport. We are a not‐for profit, grassroots organization that provides sport training and competition opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities.
At Scouts Canada, our Mission is clear: to help develop well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world. We do this by enabling thousands of young Canadians to engage in safe, youth-led, adventurous programs in hundreds of communities across this great country.
As Volunteers and staff supporting these programs, our aim is to ensure Scouting remains vibrant and continues to expand its reach: providing more youth with an opportunity to learn and to experience things at Scouts that they cannot experience elsewhere.
Karate Nova Scotia is the only body which the Province of Nova Scotia recognizes for Karate. Our goals are to provide a provincial organization to promote, encourage and stimulate interest in karate in Nova Scotia and celebrate the excellence in all styles of karate affiliated under Karate Nova Scotia. Participating in karate extends far beyond the self-defense aspect into training for the mind by increasing concentration, focus and determination. It not only increases fitness but also self confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem. Participating in karate molds skills which carry over into all other aspects of life.
Girls Day Program is to enhance physical activity in young women across the maritimes.
The program includes different physically active activities, and social activities with girls between the ages of 7-13. High School and University students volunteer to help and empower the younger women.
Special Olympics Nova Scotia is dedicated to enriching the lives of Nova Scotians with intellectual disabilities through sport.
Curling Canada is a Canadian organization responsible for encouraging and facilitating growth and development of the sport of curling in Canada.
At Hockey Helps the Homeless we leverage Canada’s affinity for hockey to raise awareness and financial support for the homeless through education, fundraising, and by partnering with solutions-based local homeless support agencies.
The Halifax motionball Marathon of Sport will see over 300 young professionals participating in a full day of sport & celebration alongside local Special Olympics athletes. Volunteers will support in a variety of areas from registration, to raffle, to Sport Station managers! Now in it's 10th year, this event is a staple in the Halifax summer event calendar and is set to raise over $100,000 for Special Olympics! Volunteer hours available for high school students.
MRHL is a new youth roller hockey where its mission, vision & values align to give all kids regardless of socioeconomic background the opportunity to play a sport they love at an affordable price for all.
