Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia Volunteer Opportunity   Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia (GBSNS)  is on its way to incorporating as a nonprofit organization.  The vision of our Society is that green burial  and other eco-friendly disposition practices are the preferred choice for Nova Scotians.   GBSNS  works to raise awareness and accessibility of green burial options in Nova Scotia.  Through education and advocacy we help Nova Scotians understand and recognize the environmental benefits of green burial.   Green burial is the act of returning a body as naturally as possible to the earth using less energy and resources, making it lower impact than conventional burials or cremation.  Green burials are also less toxic, reduce carbon emissions, and protect worker health.  Green burial minimizes environmental impacts, conserves and can even restore or preserve natural ecosystems.  It offers an opportunity to carry one's living values into death.   Board Secretary (Volunteer Role) The board secretary is a non-voting member of the board and reports to the Board.   Time Commitment 8-10 hours month (board meetings and secretarial duties as described below)   Term of Office Two years   Duties and Responsibilities The Secretary works closely with the Board Chair in the planning of board and Society meetings and is responsible for ensuring the creation and timely distribution of the board meeting agenda and Society membership meetings (AGM) the accurate recording and distribution of the minutes of board meetings.  The minutes should reflect the format and level of detail as required by the board the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date board planning calendar, outlining matters to be on the agenda over the course of a year (e.g. approval of budget, report on board recruitment, AGM, as well as key events board members are expected to attend) maintenance of a full contact list of board members including board member appointment dates, term of appointments and board member bios updating, maintaining and safe storage of the Association's minute book and other legal documents such as incorporation documents, bylaws, insurance policies and important contracts maintenance of an up-to-date list of members of the Society the accurate recording and distribution of the minutes of the Society's Annual General Meeting   Qualifications A clear understanding and a commitment to the mission of GBSNS Preferably at least one year of relevant experience of working with a nonprofit Board Knowledge of meeting procedures An adequate level of writing proficiency and access to a computer for word processing   For more information, please contact Theresa Farrell, Volunteer Co-Coordinator  theresafarrell1099@gmail.com

Team Rubicon is an international Disaster Response  registered charity that serves communities by mobilizing veterans, first responders and civilians to  leverage their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises.  Team Rubicon rapidly deploys emergency response teams, free of charge, to communities affected by disasters. Team Rubicon currently maintains a roster of 140,000 + North American volunteers able to deploy throughout Canada and the world.  We are building a Halifax based Disaster Response Team  and we are looking for a wide variety of skill sets and experience. We provide the training. We cover the costs of deployment,  and we provide the opportunities to be there for people on their worst days. Join us today!

Our Approach - Through volunteer-led gift drives that benefit women who are impacted by homelessness, we build compassionate and connected communities - By distributing essentials of daily living to shelters and community agencies, we support women and gender-diverse people facing income inequality. - By building awareness and educating youth, we challenge stigmas, fight discrimination, and promote equity. Our Vision To foster equitable communities where all women are seen, valued, and treated with dignity and compassion.

The Navy League Cadet Corps are managed and supervised by adult volunteers who are enrolled as Navy League Officers or Navy League Instructors. Officers are granted warrants by the League, wear naval pattern uniforms and use naval ranks followed by a Navy League (NL) designator. Navy League Officers are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces. All Navy League volunteers are provided opportunities for development of skills that will undoubtedly benefit you in your career as well. These include home study and weekend training in leadership and instructional techniques.

The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) 2023 will bring together more than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team staff from 756+ Indigenous Nations celebrating, sharing and reconnecting through sport and culture with the help of 3,000 volunteers.

FIN Atlantic International Film Festival has blossomed into one of Canada’s premier celebrations of film and filmmaking, becoming an essential platform for films both local and global. Celebrating its 42nd year in 2022, the festival began as a tiny, grassroots operation in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1981, relocating to Halifax the following year. Providing an immersive escape and experience for movie lovers, filmmakers, and industry professionals worldwide, the Atlantic International Film Festival is Atlantic Canada’s curator of epic and unforgettable stories.

Shakespeare by the Sea excites the audience with the wonder of words and the unique joy of live performance, while shedding light on the human condition with the greatest plays in the English language, in great settings, for a great price (pay what you can!). Our outdoor summertime home is The Cambridge Battery in Point Pleasant Park, a large urban park in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This season, we are presenting Cinderelly (The Musical) and Hamlet (Prince of Denmark), and are looking for volunteers to help with front-of-house set-up and take-down. This is a great way to get involved with local theatre, while also getting to witness very cool and fun shows! It also looks great on the resume. We can't wait to work with you :)
