Nocturne: Art at Night is a fall festival that brings art and energy to the streets of Halifax between 6pm-midnight. It is an annual event that showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax and engages audiences with contemporary art throughout the city. Nocturne is designed and planned by volunteers to support and promote artists, galleries and art organizations, we aim to enrich the cultural, social, and economic vitality of our community by transforming art’s place in the city. One of the best ways to support the festival is to come out and lend a hand! Depending on your interest, you’ll get opportunities to interact with artists, board members and the general public. We need festival assistants and guides in different areas to help us with on the night of!

Gardens of GRACE really falls under a couple of categories, as we are an advocacy group for stillbirth, miscarriage, pregnancy and child loss and the bereavement services available to parents of early loss. We are working with hospitals, gov't and community to promote awareness, change current practices and work at eliminating the taboo and stigma surrounding pregnancy loss.

Established in 1986, Options offers a unique opportunity to learn the basic skills required to find and maintain a structured, yet supportive environment. The integrated training program treats participants as employees and includes educational upgrading, life skills development, and workforce development skills in five employment areas: Building Maintenance, Customer Service, Food Service, Basic and Advanced Office Skills, and Bakery Production. Options is opened to individuals 16 years of age and older who are facing persistent multiple barriers to employment.  Research shows that industry-based employment models that combine training and skills development benefit the workforce and the employer.

The Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre (H&R MFRC) is proud to be a part of a strong military family community. The H&R MFRC is a registered charity, governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of a minimum of 51 per cent military family members. We are here to support military families and members, especially during times when postings and deployments bring challenges. The H&R MFRC has several programs designed to support integration into new communities, and deployment readiness for families to ensure everyone is well prepared for whatever the CAF life throws your way. The Halifax & Region MFRC serves military families in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Shearwater, Central and Northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, with service sites in Halifax, Shearwater and Sydney, Cape Breton. An independent, registered charity the MFRC relies on community support to provide many programs and services. Corporate and individual donations provide resources so Canadian Forces members and their families can stay strong.

The Culture Link is looking for Volunteers to work 3 Saturdays at either the Seaport Farmers market or the Forum. Looking to start Saturday March 10th. Lunch will be provided! Volunteers will be asking the public to answer a quick 2-4 question survey on an iPad about whether or not they would support Culture links proposal to turn the old World Trade Convention Centre into a facility fit to cater to the cities creative industries such as tv, dance, theatre, and music. We are arranging a private event for government officials however we are in much need of asking the publics input as well which is where you come in! StART is a local organization that supports emerging artists of all disciplines. Based out of K’jipuktuk / Halifax, Nova Scotia, StArt works to encourage and empower artists with the skills, networks, and resolve necessary to pursue their chosen vocation. We run an annual festival and mentorship program: Now entering its fourth year, the StART Festival is a multidisciplinary festival of emerging artists based out of the Bus Stop Theatre in K’jipuktuk / Halifax, Nova Scotia. With two days of performances and art installations, featuring upwards of fifteen artists, the festival creates a hub of activity that allows emerging artists to connect with engaged audiences.   The StART Mentorship Program is designed to empower emerging artists by providing them a supported platform to make art, fostering professional development, and creating opportunities to connect with mentors. The Mentorship serves emerging to mid-career artist who are trying to enter the professional realm. We would like to acknowledge that our festival and programming takes place in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) people first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

We are thrilled to announce that once again, Halifax will have a multicultural event: The Mosaic Festival. Breaking the mould of past festivals, we are creating a unique celebration of our city’s diverse cultures – pairing a vibrant parade of music and dance with a waterfront party of concerts and vendors. With the support of Halifax Waterfront Development, Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Port Authority and Halifax Regional Municipality, plans are underway for the one-day event on Saturday, August 18. To make this event a success and fun for everyone, we are searching for a team of volunteers to help during the parade and waterfront party portions of the event. Overview of the event Starting with a parade along Lower Water Street, the family-friendly event will feature music and dance from around the world. We are inviting representatives from as many cultures as possible, giving them an opportunity to share their unique heritage. The parade will start at Pier 21 - symbolic of Halifax’s strong ties with welcoming newcomers. As the parade ends at Lower Water Street and Salter Street, the music will continue with a series of concerts, featuring musicians from various countries. Alongside the musical stage will be booths of vendors, giving these communities a chance to showcase and sell their crafts, food and art.
