The Rotary Club of Halifax North West is part of Rotary International, an organization of 1.2 million people in 33,000 Clubs, in over 200 countries around the world. The focus of our Club is support of charitable causes serving youth and the elderly and persons at risk. Locally, our support is focused on the Spryfield area in Halifax, but our Club is also involved in international projects which support the global community. Our main source of funding is a 50/50 draw in Spryfield called Toonies for Change, in which participants register a player number and play a Toonie a week. The project is very well supported by the community in the form of volunteers who devote their time each week in the operation of the project. That said, there is a need for part-time managerial and administrative support.
In collaboration with private, corporate and government stakeholders, the goal of the Society of Atlantic Heroes is the establishment of a Supportive Housing and Healing facility which will cater to veterans, first responders and their families who are experiencing serious personal challenges associated with Operational Stress Injuries (OSI), including PTSD and addicitions.
Independent Living provides persons with disabilities control and choice within the community. Independent Living is a movement that enables persons with disabilities to remove social and environmental barriers through a variety of programs, services, and events.
Open Harbour works to sponsor a refugee group to begin a new life in Halifax each year. A sponsorship starts on the day of arrival and extends for the 12 months afterward. It includes financial, social, and emotional support. We greet our new Nova Scotians at the airport, set them up with a furnished apartment, enroll them in job training and English classes, help them get to medical appointments, register their children in school - and a lot more!

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence.
Established in July 2019, Shelter Movers Nova Scotia (SMNS) is made up of a growing team of dedicated volunteers helping to ensure an immediate and lasting impact on survivors in the province. With headquarters in the Halifax Regional Municipality and two rural extensions in the Annapolis Valley and the South Shore, SMNS offers our services to over 60% of the Nova Scotian population.
Welcome to Parkinson Canada in Halifax, you are not alone. Our team of staff and trained volunteers offer information, education and services for Atlantic Canadians living with Parkinson’s, their families/caregivers and the health professionals on their treatment teams. Parkinson Canada has a number of local programs, education and fundraising events that are support through volunteers. The Frank Mackay House is the first project of the Dartmouth Shelter Society. It supports families and individuals who are not in active addiction. This “clean safe space” supports those who are succeeding in recovery but facing challenges with housing and finding employment. Volunteers provide supper and breakfast meals to up to 10 guests daily.
Family SOS is a local, non-profit, child-centered organization directed toward building strong and healthy families. As an inclusive family support agency, Family SOS offers free comprehensive programs that will benefit all family members.
Easter Seals Nova Scotia provides services, training, employment support, recreational programs and mobility devices to persons with disabilities. Located in Dartmouth, ESNS is the home of Nova SCotia's oldest social enterprise, New Leaf.
We are a charity helping support the local community in Halifax. We take place in projects ranging from providing winter clothes for the homeless to assisting pet owners in need to afford medical procedures for their pet. We strive to help support the community and make sure no one is left behind disadvantaged due to their means.
Ronald McDonald House is a “home-away-from-home” for out of town families with sick children receiving vital medical treatment in Halifax. Our warm, welcoming and affordable accommodations help ease the heavy financial and emotional burdens placed on the hundreds of families who come through our doors each year.

We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Our work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast.
