Shelter Nova Scotia is passionate about ending homelessness one person at a time. We help people transition from crisis to community. To this end, we operate 5 facilities in HRM providing over 44,000 bed nights per year to men and women with young children who otherwise have nowhere to turn. Each year we care for 1500 people. 17% of our clients are between the ages of 16-24.

BRAVE Centre for Building Resilience through Anti-Violence Education offers a comprehensive set of services based on the award-winning, evidence-based, cognitive behavioural SNAP® (Stop Now And Plan) program for girls aged 6-11 who struggle with social and behavioural issues at home or school, as well as their families. These behaviours may include bullying or being mean to others, making threats, being physically aggressive towards or hurting others, not listening, missing school, having negative peers associations, and stealing. Throughout the 12-week SNAP® groups, the girls and their families learn effective emotion regulation, problem solving and self-control skills.

The Spencer House Seniors Community Centre is for seniors over 50. The Centre's goal is to provide the services and programs which enable older adults to live independently, contribute to their community and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Centre is open Monday to Friday and offers a hot meal and various programs for seniors.
Our History
Spencer House Seniors’ Centre was officially opened on June 23, 1983 by its two founding members Doreen Fraser and Ida Zifkin.
Our centre is named after the late Lady Diana Spencer. After a visit by Prince Charles and Princess Diana to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1983, it was decided that the new organization would be named after the Princess in tribute to the Royal Visit and to express the admiration and affection of the seniors towards the Princess.
The seniors wrote to Earl Spencer, Diana’s father, and received permission to use the family name for the new centre.

Our goal is to provide the services and programs which enable older adults to live independently, contribute to their community and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
Moving Minds is a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people live well. It is the organizer of the annual Mind Ball in Halifax.
The Demetreous Lane Tenants Association is an entirely volunteer organization which with the support of HRM police and various community volunteers respond to the needs of the Demetreous Lane Community.
Since 1976 the Dartmouth Seniors' Service Centre has been providing activities and services which may not otherwise readily available in our community. The Centre offers various social, physical, and educational programs. www.dartmouthseniors.ca

The Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre supports seniors and their families through services, programs, and fun times!
Funded by The Dartmouth Kiwanis Club & Community Service Grants we are a registered charitable organization with a volunteer Board of Directors.
Our greatest asset is the volunteer efforts of our own members.
Membership is open to anyone over 50 at $15.00 per year.
We offer various social, physical, and educational activities and programs. These include, but are not limited to: Painting, Wood-Working, Tai Chi, Yoga, Singing, Duplicate Bridge, Crafts, Fitness & Exercise, Day Trips, Daily Lunches (Monday-Friday), and more.
We are also the provider of Medical Transportation, and the Dartmouth Meals on Wheels Program which serves the Dartmouth area 3 days/ week.
Prescott Group is a non-profit community based social enterprise that offers vocational opportunities, programs and services and community employment support to adults with intellectual disabilities in the Halifax area. Prescott Group's social enterprise is made up of Atlantic Bag Manufacturers, Fireside Kitchen and Prescott Mailing Services. Prescott Group also provides coaching and support to clients who work at local businesses and organizations. Our goal is to enhance the independence of persons with intellectual disabilities through personal development, social enterprise and employment opportunities.
A Community Development Initiative looking to empower residents of Mulgrave Park, in the North End of Halifax, by creating sustainable projects with entrepreneurial action.
Bryony House is a 24 bed shelter that provides a safe housing and support services for women with, or without children who have been impacted by intimate partner abuse. Each year, approximately 470 women and children stay with us and 2,500 distress calls are answered. Our dedicated counsellors are there to answer the 24-hour distress line, provide individual/group supportive counselling, public education, advocacy and referrals. An important part of our work is to break the cycle of abuse. Women who contact us come from many walks of life, socio-economic classes and cultural backgrounds. What they have in common is that they are in, or are fleeing, an abusive intimate relationship.
It’s a home for the homeless in Halifax. It’s hope for the hopeless. It’s food for the stomach and food for the soul. It’s friendship for the lonely. It’s Souls Harbour RESCUE Mission.
Souls Harbour RESCUES people from poverty, addiction and despair, by offering emergency help, such as food and clothing, life-changing programs, and the Gospel Message.

Veith House is a multi-service non-profit located in Halifax's north end. Our mission is to meet the needs of children, families, and individuals living with the effects of poverty, with empowerment as an ever present goal. We to this through programs such as Summer Day Camp, Preschool, counseling and trustee services, and more.
