The Halifax Cycling Coalition is an organization of concerned citizens dedicated to improving cycling conditions and raising awareness of cycling issues in the Halifax Regional Municipality. The HCC believes that increased bicycle use has the potential to - Reduce traffic congestion - Reduce Halifax infrastructure spending - Improve our health - Enhance our urban environment We want to change the circumstances that discourage bicycle use: inadequate cycling facilities, and lack of education for both cyclists and motorists.

Nature Conservancy of Canada is a registered charity and the province's longest serving private land conservation organization. NCC works closely with people and communities to protect our special and unique areas and rich nature heritage for wildlife, animals and nature lovers.Since 1971, NCC has been involved in 110 projects in all corners of Nova Scotia. With 42 different protected areas, NCC has successfully conserved 32,200 acres of forests, wetlands and coastal shorelines in Nova Scotia through donations and land purchases.

Sierra Club Atlantic is a vibrant grassroots organization that empowers people to protect, restore, and enjoy a healthy safe planet. We are your chapter of Canada’s only national grassroots environmental organization, working to bring your community’s concerns to the attention of regional and national leaders. Together, we are a credible, influential voice, working to make a better world a reality. We are involved in a broad range of activities from advocacy to education. Our major efforts are in the areas of energy and climate change, community health, sustainable economies, the protection of wild spaces, and environmental education.

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) is responsible for policing the urban core of the Halifax region as well as the area commonly referred to as the Sambro Loop and the Purcells Cove - Herring Cove Loop. HRP is committed to providing volunteers with positions that are both challenging and rewarding. We have a deep appreciation for the contribution our volunteers make and will make every attempt to ensure that your volunteer experience is a positive one. Our club is a non-profit, community-based organization. We are a recognized charity providing social, recreational and educational programming for children and youth. The array of services and programs offered at the Boys and Girls Club of Spryfield is formulated to respond to the needs identified from within the community’s target area. The Boys and Girls Club of Spryfield now offers a wide array of programs included in our after school program. We offer programs between the hours of 3-5 every week day, as well as full day in-service and summer camps. Our offerings include: - beginners music program - healthy snacks - gym program - basic sewing - peer support - mentorship programs for both pre teens and teens - crafts - help with homework - basic first aid - swim to survive - leadership development In the past two years attendance in our programs has more than tripled and continues to grow. Although the need for programs that we offer is expanding, our financial opportunities are not. We are located in a strong community which has given us much support over the years and we will depend on this support in the future if we want to continue to provide our services to the future leaders, businesses, residents and parents of our community.

Chisholm Services for Children is a not for profit organization that provides residential care for eight children using a trauma informed care framework of practice. In addition to the residential care facility, Chisholm also operates the LINKS Children’s Literacy Program, a literacy skills development program providing support to students in grades primary to six throughout four sites in the Halifax area. The LINKS program provides literacy support for children who are reading below grade level and/or who are diagnosed with a learning disability. HISTORY Chisholm Services for Children has a long history of providing service to women, children and families dating back to 1890. The service was founded by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and adapted to the needs of the community over the years, providing a range of services for often misunderstood and marginalized members of the community. In the early seventies two community based programs were established to provide a place for young women, 12 years of age and older, to live when they were unable to live at home. These programs were called Chisholm Centre and Barnett House. On June 3, 2004, Chisholm Youth Services incorporated under the Society’s Act of Nova Scotia, and on July 1, 2004 Chisholm Youth Services officially took over the operations of Chisholm Centre and Barnett House. Continuing to adapt to the changing needs of our community, in partnership with the Department of Community Services, Chisholm now provides residential care for co-ed children 12 and younger who have experienced complex developmental trauma. As a result of the trauma, these children are unable to live at home. With this change in mandate, the service officially changed its name to Chisholm Services for Children on June 29, 2012. Today, Chisholm is proud to offer the only long-term program for children requiring such care in Halifax, reaching across Nova Scotia to provide care for children as needed. The Chisholm Foundation for Children was established on November 19, 2010 to assist Chisholm in providing a residence for the children to live, as well as support the delivery of the service as required. The Empathy Factory was founded in 2010. Our mission is to instil a sense of empathy and a philanthropic spirit in Canada's youth. We want to inspire, empower and challenge youth to tap into their empathy and create social change through age appropriate Empathy Factory programs. Our Programs Project: Empathy - We visit schools and deliver workshops on the value of volunteering, philanthropy, and related topics to children aged 8-15. We then challenge them to submit ideas that will better their communities in the categories of health, environment, social justice and/or education. The top one or two ideas at each school receive the full support and mentorship of the Empathy Factory staff and volunteers throughout the execution of the idea. Upon completion of the projects, we ensure that each student submits a reflection of their learning outcomes, successes, and failures. Accelerating: Empathy - The two-day annual conference event brings together aspiring social innovators from high schools across the province to take part in an experiential educational environment that seeks to inspire, challenge, and empower participants. Participants are asked to devise a solution to a timely social issue, collaborate with fellow students, mentors and industry experts to refine their idea, and pitch their polished proposal to a panel of high-profile judges.

The Word on the Street is a free to attend, one-day literary and literacy festival on Halifax's beautiful waterfront. The festival features local and national authors, illustrators, and artists who come to read, discuss, and collaborate. WOTS is a family friendly event with engaging content for all ages!

Nocturne: Art at Night is a fall festival that brings art and energy to the streets of Halifax between 6 p.m.-midnight. The completely free annual event showcases and celebrates the visual arts scene in Halifax. Nocturne, designed and planned by volunteers, is an opportunity for everyone to experience the art of Halifax in a whole new light.

The Bella Rose Arts Centre Society was created in order to fill the need for a performing arts venue and cultural space in the Clayton Park neighbourhood of Halifax Mainland North. The society is a registered, not-for-profit charity whose function is to operate the Bella Rose Arts Centre theatre and its programs. The mission of the Bella Rose Arts Centre is to foster appreciation and understanding of the arts within the school and community through an inclusive approach to music, fine arts and performing arts programming. The main focus of the Bella Rose Arts Centre is to facilitate arts education and programming within the diverse community of Halifax Mainland North.

The Halifax Busker Festival is the oldest and largest of its kind in Canada. The Festival Team is excited to offer electrifying international performers from Canada, United Stages, England, Ireland and Australia! Come and watch them perform a wide varity of street theatre, acrobatics, music, visual arts, fire displays and comedy.

The Bella Rose Arts Centre is a performing arts venue located inside of Halifax West High School. The goal of the Bell Rose Arts Centre is to bring school and community to an appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures through an inclusive approach to music and fine arts programming. Currently, the theatre is seeking volunteers to assist with fundraisers and community based events.
