What is the Growing Strong Neighbourhoods Project? This program helps people connect through gardening. In shared gardens, people meet, learn to grow food, and enjoy being outside together. This helps build friendships, learn new skills, and feel healthy!How do we volunteer in the garden program?• Clean up the garden spaces• Plant and grow vegetables and flowers• Learn to garden as a group• Share snacks and enjoy time in the community• Practice English in a fun, relaxed way• Laugh, learn, and grow food togetherWhere are the community gardens?Our gardens are in the Fairview community; Glen Garden is located at 67 Glenforest Drive.Mosaic Garden is at 28 Willett Street. The Recreation Navigator Program supports newcomers by connecting them with local activities and community spaces through dedicated volunteers.Join the Recreation Navigator Volunteer Program• Help newcomers find opportunities for recreation • Help individuals and families sign up for sport and leisure programs• Guide families through the recreation system in Nova Scotia• Flexible commitment with opportunities to support one or more newcomer individuals or families, depending on their needs and your availabilityEligibilityVolunteers must have English proficiency above CLB 4 and have lived in Nova Scotia for at least 18 months. Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset

Canada Connects is a program that matches newcomer families or individuals with long-time Canadians or settled immigrants to help them settle and adjust to their new home. Join Canada Connects• Be matched with a newcomer individual or family to provide support throughout the program• Meet with your match once a week for approximately 2 hours, with a commitment of 3 months to 1 year• Share your knowledge, build meaningful connections, and help newcomers settle into life in Canada• Join a network of dedicated volunteers and connect with others making a differenceEligibility: Volunteers must demonstrate English proficiency above CLB 4 and have lived in Nova Scotia for a minimum of 18 months. A second language is an asset.

We rely on volunteers to get the food onto the tables of those in Halifax who are unable to prepare a meal for themselves. Our volunteers don’t just deliver meals. They also deliver a smile and a personal connection to our clients. You can make a huge difference in the lives of our clients. How much time you can spare for this valuable work depends on you.We are in need of drivers and runners one day per week during the hours of 9:30am-12:30pm, Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, to deliver fresh meals to our clients in peninsular Halifax.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Front Desk Volunteer Assistant The Front Desk Volunteer is the welcoming face of Nova Village. In this role, you will greet visitors, answer phones and emails, answer basic inquiries, direct participants to programs and meetings, and provide administrative support. Your friendly presence helps foster an inclusive, safe, and organized environment for all community members, staff and other volunteers. The purpose of this role is to provide opportunities for increased employment skills. Volunteer Title: Front Desk Assistant Supervisor: Ruth Power - Byrne Shift day and time: Monday 9am - 12 noon Tuesday 9am - 12 noon Wednesday 9am - 12 noon Thursday 9am - 2 pm Friday 9 am - 12 noon Responsibilities Greeting visitorsAnswering phones and emailsScheduling appointmentsManaging intake formsHandling mail and deliveriesSupporting staff and participantsMaintaining the reception areaCrisis, distress or difficult visitor responses Skills requiredBasic English SkillsFriendly and personable Good communication skillsOrganized and reliable Respectful and welcoming to individuals of all backgrounds and ages.
