Join the BCANS Board of Directors

Organization: Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia

Description: Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia is currently recruiting for members to join the Board of Directors. We are a provincial non-profit organization providing support, education, and empowerment to those affected by breast cancer as well as the general public. Responsibilities Serves a minimum 1 year term. Must keep paid membership up to date (membership fee is $15). Prepares for and attends regular board meetings and important related meetings, reviews and comments on the minutes and reports. Attends and participates in the Annual General Meeting. Votes at board meetings and works as a team member and supports board decisions. Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in at least one committee and stays informed about committee matters. Volunteers for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time. Approves the budget and monitors financial performance in relation to it. Gets to know other committee members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus. Abide by the BCANS by-laws, follows the Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest Policy, Rules of Confidentiality, and other policies that apply to the BCANS board. Monitor the performance and participate in the review of the BCANS mission and objectives and the development of a strategic plan. Attends fundraising activities. Servers as a BCANS ambassador in the community and keeps informed about community issues relevant to the mission and objectives of BCANS. Participates in the recruitment of new board members. Brings issues to the attention of the BCANS executive officers. 60% of the Board of Directors must be breast cancer survivors; however you do not need to be a breast cancer survivor to apply. Pink Spring Committee Member

Description: Join the committee for our largest fundraising event, Pink Spring. Committee members help plan, organize and coordinate the event including aspects such as sponsorship, donations, auctions, entertainment, and menu. Responsibilities Attend all committee meetings (1-2 meetings per month) Engage in discussion with committee members about aspects of the planning process Solicit donations on behalf of Pink Spring (with permission from the committee) for auction items The next meeting is Monday, December 1 at 6pm. LINKS Children's Literacy Program Volunteer Literacy Instructor

We are an nonprofit organization that provides programming and hot meals to seniors in the Halifax community. Our board members play an active role by being involved in the functioning of the centre. Parade Traffic Control Volunteer

Description: Volunteers will assist parade organizers for Sackville Snow Days Parade of Lights on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 6:30-8:30. Volunteer will stand in assigned intersections leading to Sackville Drive to prevent cars from turning onto Sackville Drive during the parade. Safety vest will be provided. Volunteer should bring a flashlight. Alternate date is Feb. 16th in event of bad weather.

Special Events and Outreach Volunteer

These events include expos, trade shows, outreach booths, and various fundraising events throughout the year. The Tasks vary from managing booths, selling merchandise, accepting donations, registering participants and guests, engaging with the public, and presenting educational materials. Volunteer for Special Events with BCANS!

Tasks vary from manning booths, selling merchandise, engaging with the public, and presenting. There is no minimum obligation requirement; however, if you are inactive for 6 months then you will be removed as a BCANS volunteer.
