The Halifax Community Learning Network is a community-based non-profit organization that provides literacy programs to adults in partnership with <a href="http://www.halifaxpubliclibraries.ca/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Halifax Public Libraries</a>. Volunteer tutors are needed to work one-on-one with adults who want to improve their reading, writing, math, or other essential life skills. Requirements: Grade 12 education or more; excellent oral and written communication skills in English; ability to commit to a scheduled two-to-three hour weekly time commitment for at least six months; an understanding of the needs of the learner and the challenges they have had in the learning process; patience and flexibility to support the learning needs of the learner as some learners take longer to reach their goals than others; creativity in developing lesson plans to motivate and engage the learner; and effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Tutoring can be a very rewarding experience. It can give you the opportunity to make a real difference in a person’s life, and enrich your own. We will provide you with training, resources and on-going support.

Halifax Early Childhood School (HECS) was founded in 1959 by a group of parents interested in providing an enriched program of pre-school activities for their children. HECS is the oldest established pre-school in the city of Halifax.

We are an elementary school serving the children and their families of Dartmouth North.  We are offering free lunch once a month for the children.  We need more help.  We are looking for 3 volunteers to help make sandwiches and cut up fruit and vegetables for approximately 210 children.

Located at Shatford Memorial Elementary School in Hubbards, NS, this cooperative nursery school operates a programme 4 mornings a week to up to 12 preschoolers.

Indigo Girls Group is a registered non-profit organization that is built for cis and trans women and non-binary folx who are comfortable in spaces that centres the experiences of women. Through diverse mediums, we aim to educate and create safe, non-judgmental discussions surrounding current societal themes for self-identifying girls to equip them with tools to become change-makers in life.

JA Nova Scotia provides hands-on experiential learning in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. Programs focus on three educational pillars: financial literacy, workplace readiness, and entrepreneurship. JA recruits volunteers from the business community to collaborate on the delivery of programs, which exposes students to real world business perspectives and ideas.

<strong>The LINKS Literacy Program </strong> is a community based tutoring program for <em>elementary age children </em>who are at least one year behind in reading/writing development.  It is geared for children with a learning disability, although an official diagnosis is not necessary. LINKS is part of Chisholm Services for Children.

<strong>Chisholm Services for Children</strong> is a non-profit organization located in Halifax providing a long-term Child and Youth Caring Program, that specializes in early intervention, prevention and permanency planning. Chisholm is dedicated to guiding children twelve years of age and younger who face severe adverse circumstances like neglect and abuse, to a realization of self-worth. Chisholm helps children develop skills and capacities to function successfully in a community setting and grow as healthy, stable individuals.

The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts is a Canadian performing arts school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, that offers courses in higher education in music, dance, and theatre. It is the largest and the oldest of such organizations for education in the performing arts east of Montreal.

Maritime Muslim Academy (MMA) is an independent educational institution based on Islamic principles, whose mission is to educate students intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially in a trusting and caring Islamic environment. The Academy offers standard educational programs like any other school in Canada and also offers Quran and Arabic as well as the basic teaching in Islamic beliefs, principles, and values.

The Academy was founded in 1984 to serve the Muslim community in the Halifax/Dartmouth area. It is one of the earliest Islamic schools established in Canada and is the only Islamic school in Atlantic Canada. MMA offers private educational services to students from September to June, a total of 195 teaching days/year, and provides full-time teaching at all stages of education: Preschool, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High. English is the main language of instruction, however, Arabic and French are taught as second languages.

Metro Care and Share Society is a non-profit organization based in Halifax, NS that helps youths from low-income families to go to college and university by paying their tuition and living costs.
