The Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside was established in 1989 and today is a vibrant Club of 50+ members, representing a broad range of backgrounds and professions. As a group, we are committed to doing good locally and internationally, to personal and professional growth and development, and to having fun in everything we do.
Like all Rotary Clubs throughout the world, our Club's principal motto is Service Above Self. Rotary organizes projects around Five Avenues of Service – Club [capacity], Community, International, Youth and Vocational – to ensure service efforts are balanced and effective. Our Club's approach to service projects is to reflect our members’ passions in the projects that we pursue. We ask our members "What would you like to accomplish through Rotary?" and go from there.
Our service projects are many and varied:
We do larger multi-year projects like partnering with Hospice Halifax and St. George's YouthNet and have partners with whom we have done several projects in different years (The Themba Project in South Africa and the Father Tony / Pa Modou Hub in Gambia).
Each year we also also start new projects that are brought to us by Club members - for example, many of our members have volunteered at Halifax Connects for 2 years now because a new member said this was an important event that we should support.
Our Club provides funds to our partners, but we believe we are at our best when we are directly engaged so, as much as possible, we engage as volunteers with the groups we support.
To fund our service projects, we conduct some smaller fundraisers (low effort) and 2 major fundraisers - our Mother's Day Brunch and the Halifax Ribfest. All our fundraisers have to be fun and provide good returns, and we focus on "pull" fundraisers that draw people.
Halifax Ribfest is happening Thursday, June 30th to Sunday, July 3rd on the Waterfront!

The Halifax Summer Opera Festival and Workshop educates and develops both singers and audiences through the performance of operatic repertoire. Our goals are to present three fully staged operas each summer in Halifax that challenge and enrich both artists and audience, and that are artistically and financially accessible to both. Our aesthetic is artist-centred, creative, professional, relatively low-budget, alternative, modern and respectful of our source material. Our clients are singers (from community members to university undergrads to professionals), creative and technical workers and audience members, who may be experienced opera or theatre goers, or newcomers to the art form
The Halifax Tea Festival brings together like-minded people to raise awareness around locally owned and operated teashops, cafes, local food establishments, organic agriculture, artisans, etc.
This festival supports the Buy Local movement by providing an accessible way to introduce products and services to the community in a unique and fun manner.
Last year for our First Annual event we welcomed hundreds of tea enthusiasts from HRM and beyond. The Festival taps into the history and the culture of tea.
It’s an opportunity to connect deeper with each other and our health.
The event is family friendly, safe, interactive, and full of learning opportunities. The Halifax Tea Festival donates a portion of admission fees to a non-profit every year.

Welcome to Happy at Home Halifax,
We are always seeking individuals who have a heart for seniors and want to make an impact in their community! Read below about the programs we offer and click "Apply now" to fill out a volunteer application form!
We offer a weekly meal delivery service free of charge to seniors who find it challenging to cook a well-balanced meal for a variety of reasons. We know healthy food positively impacts our ability to function at our best. Our meals are delivered frozen so they can be used whenever the recipient needs it. A meal contains a main dish, roll, and a dessert. While a recipient is on this service, we try to find a long-term solution for them to receive healthy meals more than once a week.
Delivery of prepaid grocery or pharmacy items is available. Our team of volunteers will pickup prepaid grocery and prescription orders and bring these items right to your door.  At times, mobility, weather, and health issues can make it difficult to pickup these needed items and we are here to help.
Our Home Maintenance program offers free labour to complete small tasks such as installing doorknobs, toilet paper holders, hanging pictures or mirrors, assembling furniture etc. These smaller jobs can make a house much more comfortable for seniors to live in and feel more like home.
Kind regards,
Happy at Home Halifax Team

We rely on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals and groups like you to bring our festival to life. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to great causes while being part of an exciting community event.
This year's festivity will feature a diverse selection of five rib trucks alongside vibrant local vendors, set to attract thousands of attendees. Our event not only offers a delightful culinary experience but also serves a greater purpose, with all proceeds being channeled into supporting numerous local and international charities through the Rotary Club's efforts.
