Volunteers from Islamic Relief Canada came together in Halifax on Sunday to assemble winter care kits to help people in need of warmth and relief this winter.

On Monday, Barteaux was part of a Team Rubicon crew found cutting and clearing fallen trees from the Birch Grove Road between the communities of Glace Bay and Tower Road. Like the majority of his team, the Lucasville, N.S. native is a retired veteran. He served 42 years.

Organizers of the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) need 3,000 volunteers and have already started recruiting. By volunteering, you will be a part of the largest multi-sport and cultural event in Atlantic Canada. You will have the opportunity to form new connections, see first hand the impact of the Games, and learn about Indigenous cultures from across Turtle Island.

The Ukrainian Store will live on. Plans were in motion to close and empty the donated space – a former Halifax sports bar – by the end of this month. That was, until Nanette Dean raised her hand to save it.

While some people try to get back to normal in the third summer of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour is having difficulty doing so when it comes to its Ribfest event. Club member Louisa Horne says with less than two weeks until the event on the Dartmouth harbourside, the vendors and Rotary members are set, but she has yet to be able to find volunteer groups to look after cleanup of the ribs and proper sorting of the waste.

A Ukrainian festival and fundraiser will be held in Halifax on April 23 to help support those defending their home country as Russia's invasion continues.
