Hospice Halifax is seeking a part-time Volunteer Coordinator to manage their volunteer program. This is a volunteer position. Volunteer Coordinator Job Description Located on Francklyn Street overlooking the Northwest Arm, Hospice Halifax will create the first free-standing residential hospice in Halifax. Hospice Halifax is dedicated providing end of life care and supporting people affected by death, grief or loss. We are a non-sectarian, registered not-for-profit organization committed to expanding awareness about the strengths of hospice care. Volunteers are an extremely important part of providing residential hospice care and services to the public. The Volunteer Coordinator provides support to Hospice Halifax in the areas of volunteer recruitment, scheduling, tracking, retention, recognition and evaluation. This is a part-time, volunteer position; approximately 1-2 days per week. Responsibilities: Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers Ensures all volunteer related policies and practices are implemented, Assists in the development of volunteer job descriptions, Supports the recruitment, screening and intake of volunteers, Ensures all application processes are complete and volunteer paper and database files remain current, including all related information pertaining to reference checks, driver’s abstracts, criminal record checks, training accomplishments, and awards/recognitions received, Provides mentorship and support to volunteers, as required, Organizes and maintains confidential volunteer files in central location, Provides awareness on training and professional development opportunities to volunteers, Celebrates the contributions of volunteers to Hospice by nominating individuals for awards and organising celebration events, Maintains communication with volunteers through emails, newsletters and other communications as required, Work with various Hospice Halifax event organizers to fill volunteer roles as required (Hike for Hospice, Angel Tree Campaign and Feeling the Love Dinner and Dance, community talks, etc…). Qualifications: Excellent writing, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, Experience working with volunteers and/or experience supervising staff, Interest in and supporter of Hospice Palliative Care, Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity, A flexible, non-judgemental and respectful approach to people, Good technical skills – word processing, spreadsheets, databases, social networking, and Able to commit to a one year term in the position.
