Hospice Halifax is dedicated to supporting people affected by life-limiting illness, death, grief or loss. We are a non-sectarian, registered not-for-profit organization committed to expanding awareness about the strengths of hospice care. We are working toward establishing the first free-standing residential hospice in Nova Scotia. Hospice palliative care means providing opportunities for individuals and families to uniquely address practical, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while preparing for the individual’s death. Residential hospices provide a home-like setting for individuals who are living with and dying from end-stage illnesses who require holistic care and regular symptom assessment and treatment and care plans. Hospices also help individuals and families cope with grief and loss during the illness and after the individual’s death. Hospice care is safe, high quality, patient-centered, and cost effective. Palliative care, aimed at relieving physical suffering and providing comfort and quality of life, can be delivered in a dedicated section of a health care facility, in an individual’s home, or at a hospice.

The IWK Health Centre is a hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia that provides care to women, children, and youth from throughout Atlantic Canada and beyond.

ImmUnity Canada is a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides a community for people and families impacted by primary immunodeficiency (where part of the immune system is missing or does not function properly). We advocate for education, research, and support for PI patients. Together, we can give all Canadians with PI access to the resources they need to thrive. ImmUnity Canada was founded in 1997 as the Canadian Immunodeficiency Patient Organization. We changed our name in 2022 to better reflect the work we do today! We have a staff of 4 people, and hence, volunteers are vital to helping us fulfil out mission - to empower people with PI to live well.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF's vision is to achieve a world without T1D and to turn type 1 into type none. We are the largest non-profit funder of T1D research in the world, with a mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. When you raise funds for research through local Nova Scotia events like the 2018 #JDRFWalk to Cure Diabetes, it enables us to support the best and brightest scientists in the field. JDRF is the leading organization funding the top research in the world to better treat, prevent and cure type one diabetes (T1D)

A NS based nonprofit that trains and placed medical service dogs to disabled individuals. We are a very small, close knit group. Our main program is training Mobility Dogs for Ehlors-Danlos Syndrome. Our other program places medical service dogs with survivors of sexual violence who have become disabled due to their conditions (ex. PTSD, mobility, brain injury). We are completely volunteer run and always looking to expand out team!

Laing House is a peer support organization for youth living with mental illness, where members can embrace their unique gifts and find their way in a caring and supportive environment. Laing House youth are between 16 and 30 years of age and have a diagnosis of mood disorder, psychosis, and/or anxiety disorder. Laing House is a youth-driven, community-based organization where young people who are living with a mental illness can get the support they need to rebuild their lives. Since opening in 2001, Laing House has assisted hundreds of youth to continue on their path to recovery.

Liver Canada (LC), formerly known as the Canadian Liver Foundation, was first established in 1969. We exist to promote liver health, increase public understanding and awareness of liver diseases, and provide support to those affected.

From our main office in Halifax, we serve all Nova Scotians with lung disease through help from generous donors. Our focus is simple: offer the best programs and services in lung health possible, advocate for better lung health research and put the money we receive in areas that directly help Nova Scotians live healthier and breathe easier.

Lung Cancer Canada is a registered national charity that serves as Canada’s leading resource for lung cancer education, patient support, research and advocacy. Based in Toronto, Ontario, Lung Cancer Canada has a wide reach that includes both regional and pan-Canadian initiatives. Lung Cancer Canada is a member of the Global Lung Cancer Coalition and is the only organization in Canada focused exclusively on lung cancer.

MS Canada provides services to people with multiple sclerosis and their families and funds research to find the cause and cure for this disease. We have a membership of over 7,000 and are the only national voluntary organization in Canada that supports both MS research and services. Since our founding in 1948, the core support of MS Canada has been from tens of thousands of dedicated individuals, companies and foundations in communities across Canada. The Society receives almost no funding from government. MS Canada is governed by a board of directors comprised of 14 volunteer members who are elected annually. Some 1,500 volunteers serve on MS Canada national, division and chapter boards and committees. An estimated 13,500 women and men are volunteers for service programs, fundraising events, public awareness campaigns and social action activities.
