Beyond The Wards Canada is an initiative that aims to highlight the contributions of under-recognized frontline workers that have been largely left out by mainstream media. While we don’t want to take light away from the healthcare workers who are tirelessly fighting COVID-19, it’s important for us to look beyond the hospital wards and see the heroes that occupy our day-to-day lives too. During this challenging time, our goal is to provide everyday heroes with extra support through kind and uplifting messages of encouragement, love, and appreciation. These heroes include the people we rely on every day, such as transportation, sanitation, and postal workers.
We provide a platform where individuals can submit messages of gratitude through art, written notes, letters, and even performances. These messages are sent to the workers of their choice and shared across our media platforms. For more information about our cause and the list of different heroes we're supporting, visit our website: https://www.beyondthewardsto.com/. We’re have also launched our testimonial campaign, Stories Unmasked, which tells the stories of essential workers and the challenges they've faced throughout the pandemic, and we plan to launch an activism campaign by the end of the month.
The Medavie Blue Nose Marathon is the largest annual running and walking event in Atlantic Canada! Known as “The People's Marathon,” the Blue Nose Marathon welcomes participants of all ages, abilities and fitness levels to celebrate healthy living and active lifestyles. Now in its 21st year, join one of Halifax’s most anticipated community events May 17 – 19, 2024.
Blue Nose Marathon is a community based and volunteer-driven organization.
How it began:
Legend has it, back in the age of sail when the sea was at the core of our existence, mariners would arrive in the port of Halifax with noses stained blue by the dye of their peacoat sleeves – the perfect substitute for a handkerchief. It is in their name we run: Blue Nose. It began with a dream – that Halifax have its own annual marathon. Realizing that there were many races around the world, we came up with a unique idea. Our marathon would be part of a weekend of events promoting and celebrating healthy living and active lifestyles. As well, we would encourage everyone in our community and beyond to get involved as a volunteer, sponsor, spectator, or participant, be it as a runner, walker, or Nordic walker.
With the help of more than 1,000 volunteers, there are six running events (5KM, 10KM, 21.1KM , 42.2KM, team relay, youth run-4KM and 2KM) taking place during the Victoria Day weekend. There is also an Active Living Expo that spans two days with more than 80 booths. The Giv’er Charity Challenge has grown to over 80 charities that collectively have raised over $500,000.

Welcome to CIAD—Canadian Intervention and Assistance Dogs Society. In Gaelic, CIAD means “primary” or “first”. We felt that this name truly reflects our training school on a number of levels….first; we are a new school in Nova Scotia offering intervention and assistance dog training. Secondly, we are focusing on providing assistance (service) dogs to first responders who have sustained post-traumatic stress injuries (PTSI) that are either cumulative (long-term over their career) or incidental (a specific event).
We are an incorporated not-for-profit society and operate following the Societies Act of Nova Scotia.
Follow along with us as we grow and consider becoming one of our supporters! There are many ways that you can help CIAD grow…by donating your time, talents or financial contributions to help us reach our goal of pairing service dogs with first responders.
