Shubenacadie Canal Commission

In order to preserve the historic features of the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway and to provide access to the waterway for the education and the enjoyment of the public, a Private Bill was introduced in 1986 to Establish the Shubenacadie Canal Commission.

According to the Act, the object and purpose of the Commission is to oversee and further promote the Shubenacadie Canal System including the operation of any information or interpretative centres pertaining to or belonging to the Shubenacadie Canal System.

Our mission is to preserve the historic features of the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway and to provide access to the waterway for the education and the enjoyment of the public. In order to achieve this, the Commission pursues the following objectives:

To carry out stabilization, preservation and restoration work to the locks and associated features including the dams, head ponds and channels.
<ul>
<li>To provide for the maximum practical use of the waterway by shallow draft watercraft.</li>
<li>To provide for the interpretation of sites for visitors.</li>
<li>To provide park-like settings for residents and tourists.</li>
</ul>

Solar Schools Canada – Les Écoles Solaires du Canada is a non-profit organization committed to climate action and education. We work with public schools to develop and fund solar panel installations to prevent emissions, enhance education, and reduce school operating costs. Now entering its fourth year, the <strong> <a href="https://startfesthalifax.com/festival/">StART Festival</a></strong> is a multidisciplinary festival of emerging artists based out of the Bus Stop Theatre in K’jipuktuk / Halifax, Nova Scotia. With two days of performances and art installations, featuring upwards of fifteen artists, the festival creates a hub of activity that allows emerging artists to connect with engaged audiences.

 

The <strong><a href="https://startfesthalifax.com/start-mentorship-program/">StART Mentorship</a> </strong>Program is designed to empower emerging artists by providing them a supported platform to make art, fostering professional development, and creating opportunities to connect with mentors.

The Mentorship serves emerging to mid-career artist who are trying to enter the professional realm.

We would like to acknowledge th<span class="text_exposed_show">at our festival and programming takes place in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) people first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.</span>

Take a Pain Check Foundation is a Canadian registered, international youth-led community and non-profit organization founded in self-advocacy to empower youth with rheumatic diseases. They host bi-weekly podcasts, run ambassador programs for health professionals and youth, pilot rheumatic-related events, feature stories on their blog platform and lead monthly Joint Chat Rheum hangouts.

Team Rubicon is an international Disaster Response  registered charity that serves communities by mobilizing veterans, first responders and civilians to  leverage their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises.  Team Rubicon rapidly deploys emergency response teams, free of charge, to communities affected by disasters. Team Rubicon currently maintains a roster of 140,000 + North American volunteers able to deploy throughout Canada and the world.  We are building a Halifax based Disaster Response Team  and we are looking for a wide variety of skill sets and experience. Techsploration

Techsploration, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1998 because we believed if you want to make a change in the number of women working in these fields, you have to reach the young women. Techsploration directly addresses this.

Techsploration provides young women from grades nine through twelve with opportunities to explore science, trades and technology occupations, while creating awareness about the critical role of work in their lives. It also helps them understand the significance of high school math and science for their future careers.
