Scott Manor House is a registered provincial and municipal heritage property, owned by the Halifax Regional Municipality and managed by the Fort Sackville Foundation, a Bedford local-history group and registered charity.
It provides facilities and resources for research about the local area and its inhabitants, as well as a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of life. In the summer it operates as a museum and community hub, featuring a Tea Room for your further relaxation and enjoyment.
Shakespeare By The Sea has been consistent with it’s annual productions of Shakespeare’s work for 20 seasons, and has included classical and modern pieces in it’s repertoire to round out the theatregoer's experience in the beautiful surroundings of Point Pleasant Park, or in the cozy confines of The Park Place Theatre. Hundreds of thousands of people have been entertained by our unique brand of outdoor theatre, and have been delighted to find the quality of the work is upheld in the intimate indoor venue that houses performances during inclement summer weather, as well as during the fall/winter/spring months.
Shakespeare by the Sea is an artist-driven collaborative organization. Under the guidance of a Board of Directors, the company offers a full repertory season of outdoor summer theatre, traditionally ranging from July 1 to Labour Day.
If you are someone who enjoys theatre, meeting people, and working outdoors volunteering with us is the perfect opportunity for you! Knowledge of Shakespeare is not a prerequisite.
Responsibilities may can include, but are not limited to the following:
Welcoming patrons
Distributing programs
Assisting in the seating of patrons
Ensuring that all guests have an enjoyable experience!
Hours are based around show times which are in the evenings with matinees on the weekends and no shows on Mondays. Any amount of commitment is welcomed.
Shakespeare by the Sea excites the audience with the wonder of words and the unique joy of live performance, while shedding light on the human condition with the greatest plays in the English language, in great settings, for a great price (pay what you can!).
Our outdoor summertime home is The Cambridge Battery in Point Pleasant Park, a large urban park in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
This season, we are presenting Cinderelly (The Musical) and Hamlet (Prince of Denmark), and are looking for volunteers to help with front-of-house set-up and take-down. This is a great way to get involved with local theatre, while also getting to witness very cool and fun shows! It also looks great on the resume. We can't wait to work with you :)
In order to preserve the historic features of the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway and to provide access to the waterway for the education and the enjoyment of the public, a Private Bill was introduced in 1986 to Establish the Shubenacadie Canal Commission.
According to the Act, the object and purpose of the Commission is to oversee and further promote the Shubenacadie Canal System including the operation of any information or interpretative centres pertaining to or belonging to the Shubenacadie Canal System.
Our mission is to preserve the historic features of the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway and to provide access to the waterway for the education and the enjoyment of the public. In order to achieve this, the Commission pursues the following objectives:
To carry out stabilization, preservation and restoration work to the locks and associated features including the dams, head ponds and channels.
To provide for the maximum practical use of the waterway by shallow draft watercraft.
To provide for the interpretation of sites for visitors.
To provide park-like settings for residents and tourists.
The Social Mentor Network helps social innovators from faith-based and secular social enterprises, by connecting them with mentors and with each other!
Solar Schools Canada – Les Écoles Solaires du Canada is a non-profit organization committed to climate action and education. We work with public schools to develop and fund solar panel installations to prevent emissions, enhance education, and reduce school operating costs. Equally, we work to develop and deliver curriculum aligned educational resources that leverage school-based solar panel installations to explore STEAM, environment, energy and sustainability subject matter. Our mission at St. John Ambulance is to enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. Some of our community service programs include: Therapy Dog, Volunteer Medical Responders, LifeSmart, and our Car Seat program. In addition to Standard and Emergency First Aid we offer a number of specialized courses including: Defensive Driving, Pet First Aid, Babysitting, Home Alone, Marine First Aid, Emergency Child Care, Wilderness First Aid, and more.

Now entering its fourth year, the StART Festival is a multidisciplinary festival of emerging artists based out of the Bus Stop Theatre in K’jipuktuk / Halifax, Nova Scotia. With two days of performances and art installations, featuring upwards of fifteen artists, the festival creates a hub of activity that allows emerging artists to connect with engaged audiences.
The StART Mentorship Program is designed to empower emerging artists by providing them a supported platform to make art, fostering professional development, and creating opportunities to connect with mentors.
The Mentorship serves emerging to mid-career artist who are trying to enter the professional realm.
We would like to acknowledge that our festival and programming takes place in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) people first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

For the last 20+ years, what has driven us is the desire to make Canada one of the best places to raise a child. Our work targets three outcomes for school-aged students living on the margins: increased physical activity and develops social-emotional agencies, aid in reaching and maintaining literacy skills and develop skills and agencies that contribute to success in high school. Achieving these outcomes is the key to making our ambitious vision of success for all Canadian children a reality.

Take a Pain Check Foundation is a Canadian registered, international youth-led community and non-profit organization founded in self-advocacy to empower youth with rheumatic diseases. They host bi-weekly podcasts, run ambassador programs for health professionals and youth, pilot rheumatic-related events, feature stories on their blog platform and lead monthly Joint Chat Rheum hangouts.
Our Mission: Take a Pain Check’s aims to empower youth and young adults impacted by rheumatic disease to advocate for themselves and to create a supportive, safe, and inclusive community where individuals feel understood.
Our Vision: Through this youth led initiative our vision is that all youth and young adults feel supported in their journey with rheumatic illness.
Team Rubicon is an international Disaster Response registered charity that serves communities by mobilizing veterans, first responders and civilians to leverage their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. Team Rubicon rapidly deploys emergency response teams, free of charge, to communities affected by disasters. Team Rubicon currently maintains a roster of 140,000 + North American volunteers able to deploy throughout Canada and the world. We are building a Halifax based Disaster Response Team and we are looking for a wide variety of skill sets and experience. We provide the training.
