Harold and Dianne Clapp from Smith’s Cove, N.S. spend most of their volunteer time walking in the woods or paddling around a lake. They’re property guardians with the Nova Scotia Nature Trust and their job is to keep an eye on privately-owned land in their area that has absentee landowners.

Folks looking for a fluffy new friend will get the chance to meet some adoptable bunnies Sunday afternoon. The first rescue group in the Maritimes focused on the long-eared lagomorphs — 10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue — is holding a "bunny blitz" in Halifax. More than a dozen of the twitchy-nosed animals can be scoped out by potential new owners.

Volunteers are needed for upcoming tax preparation clinics. The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program hosts free clinics where volunteers help those who are eligible file their tax returns.

A fundraising effort that will see an urban wilderness park established in Halifax has finally passed the finish line. The Nature Conservancy of Canada and local conservation groups held a celebration Monday with the establishment of the Shaw Wilderness Park in the Williams Lake area.
