For the Girls – and You, Volunteer Today! Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada (GGC) offers girls and women the chance to make new friends, challenge themselves, and put their ideas into action through an amazing range of activities. As a volunteer Guider, you will be the key to providing girls 5-17 with the fun and challenge of Guiding. There are so many possibilities! Your unit could go on an outdoor scavenger hunt, have a sleepover at a science centre, or plant a tree. It’s up to you and your fellow Guiders on how you want to ignite the minds of girls! What’s in it for you? When you volunteer with GGC, you can be sure that you’re making a positive impact on the lives of girls in your community while growing your own group of friends in a fun environment! You’ll also have countless opportunities to develop highly transferable skills such as leadership, communications, and planning. Additionally, volunteers will also have access to member-only training and special events such as regional rallies, camping, and international travel. Time Commitment Meetings once a week and occasional weekend activities Responsibilities Provide responsible leadership to a group of girl or youth members while facilitating engaging programming Commitment to creating safe environments for girls, both emotionally and physically Communicate with parents/guardians Adhere to the Girl Guide Code of Conduct and Safe Guide Have fun! Qualifications/Skills Someone who enjoys working with young girls, is energetic, and wants to make a difference. Enthusiasm to work with young girls ages 5 to 17 Commitment to creating safe environments for girls, both emotionally and physically Willingness to plan and facilitate girl-centered programming Strong communication skills (e.g. with parents/guardians, girls and other Guiding leaders) Team building skills Strong organizational skills Ability to pass Police Reference Check (PRC) Girl Guides is an organization with more than 106 years of history and a strong and growing future.
