Opportunity Description:

We are seeking a CPA to join our volunteer board of directors as a dedicated Treasurer to make a difference in the community. If you have financial expertise, a passion for supporting mental health initiatives, and a commitment to community well-being, we want you!  The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting, strategic planning and business operations. The role of the Treasurer is to provide general oversight of the ongoing financial management of SHC. They advise the board on the organization’s financial health, compliance requirements and financial policies, and attend monthly board meetings. They also work with the executive director to review financial reports and create the yearly budget. Self-Help Connection (SHC) is a registered charitable organization that promotes and supports emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness through self-help education, training, resources, and connections with others. For over 30 years, Self-Help Connection has been facilitating personal growth, mental health support, and community engagement in Nova Scotia. Our mission is to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, free from addiction, and foster a culture of self-improvement by promoting the values of SHAPE (Sharing, Holistic Health, Accountability, Peer Support, and Education). We endeavor to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and addictions, remove barriers to the access of resources, and raise mental health awareness. Our vision is to be a catalyst for positive change in Nova Scotia’s mental health landscape.
