ElderDog Canada is a federally incorporated, 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization headquartered in Nova Scotia. ElderDog is dedicated to aging people and aging dogs with a mission to: assist and support older adults in the care and well-being of their canine companions; provide care and companionship for older dogs who have lost a human companion; educate health and animal care professionals and people of all ages about the human-animal bond and the role of companion animals in the health and well-being of seniors; honour life and loss of canine companions through consolation and commemoration. Position Description The Secretary is an Officer of ElderDog Canada and will work alongside other ElderDog officers and directors. Duties include: communication of notice of meetings to members; distribution of meeting materials such as agendas and minutes; attendance at all general, special, and executive meetings; management of important records such as meeting minutes and the organization’s bylaws; recording of all votes and minutes of all proceedings; knowledge of the organization’s records and related materials; providing advice and resources to the board on topics such as governance issues, amendments to by-laws, and the like; keeping organization’s records and ensuring all documents are safely stored and readily accessible; ensuring that ElderDog meets any legal requirements such as annual filing deadlines; reviewing and updating documents as necessary. Experience working on Boards of no-profit organizations an asset.
