Imagine choosing between paying rent or putting food on the table.

These are real choices that people living on the edge of poverty are faced with every day.

Join us for Living on the Edge, a unique event where you step into the life of someone living on the edge of poverty. Offered to the general public for the first time ever in Halifax, you’ll experience the harsh reality of what it’s like to live on a low income. Participating in Living on the Edge will give you a new understanding of the difficult choices that unfortunately becomes part of everyday life for too many in our city.

I interviewed my dad on video in his final weeks. When I asked about his work and finding meaning through helping others, he responded, “I don’t think you can be focused on, ‘Oh gee, I want to make a difference.’ It has to be spontaneous. If it’s not…there’s some kind of egotistical thing going on. That’s a red flag. You hope you impact people on the deepest level you are capable of at the time. Sometimes you hit it, sometimes you don’t. You’re trying.
