Black is Beautiful

“Black is Beautiful” features music by composers of colour in a concert that will educate, and engage you! Led by Carribean-Canadian conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, the orchestra performs a whirlwind of styles and genres, from African hymns to jazz, funk rock and hip-hop. The history of western Black Music is a history of struggle and celebration.

This FREE concert is musical fun for all ages! No need to worry about staying still and being quiet – we encourage activity and participation. Families are welcome to come and go freely, whether they’re trying out Long and McQuade’s Musical Instrument Fun Zone, exploring the Maritime Museum, or just taking a break.

This concert also features a “sensory friendly” performance especially for those with autism or developmental disabilities at 1:30 pm (45 minutes).
