Opportunity Description:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! If you’re someone who is retired and interested in spending a morning or an afternoon assisting a senior with transportation and errands such as grocery shopping, then please contact the Canadian Red Cross now! Reporting to the Transportation and Errand Support Coordinator, this position provides transportation and errands support to Red Cross clients.   Key Responsibilities:  Activities: Manages the pick up and return home of clients as per schedule Maintains a clean and safe vehicle Reports and damage or safety issues to supervisor Assists clients with the safe stowage of any ambulatory equipment in the vehicle Assists clients with movement to and from the vehicle Respects client confidentiality Assists client with designated activities (shopping, banking, etc.) including getting purchases put away. Maintains accurate records of trips, mileage, etc.    Successfully completes required training: Participates in required training, including online and in-class training as necessary. Contributes to a healthy and safe working environment. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years driving experience with a valid driver’s license This position requires a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract. This position requires a satisfactory Canadian Police Record check This position requires a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector check This position also requires that the successful candidate inform their insurance company of personal vehicle use for volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross and must provide proof of $1,000,000 insurance coverage (if applicable). SKILLS AND ABILITIES     Excellent customer service. Excellent English and/or French language communication skills (depending on client need). Friendly, patient and reliable Understands and is able to respect client’s confidentiality and privacy Ability to lift 5 lbs to 50 lbs, items such as groceries or ambulatory equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs   WORKING CONDITIONS Driving conditions will vary depending on the time of year.
