Opportunity Description:

Fairview  Resource Centre: Board of Directors – Treasurer Position About Us: The Fairview Resource Centre (FRC) is a community hub located in Fairview, Nova Scotia. Fairview is in the urban core of Halifax and considered the most diverse neighborhood east of Montreal. The Centre began in 1986 and is a non-profit organization and registered charity. The Centre supports marginalized populations by removing barriers and providing opportunities and support.  Some of the programs include parenting support, youth programs, meal and food support, basic needs support, early learning and literacy support, peer support groups, community wellness program and exercise groups, individual skill development, senior programs, referrals and advocacy and much more. The Centre serves over 500 different participants a year.   About the Role: You are an enthusiast, compassionate, community minded individual who is looking to join a board that can make an immediate impact on the community we serve.   Term – 3 years Meetings – monthly board meeting. Second Wednesday of the month at 6 – 8 pm.   Responsibilities of the Treasurer are as follows; Follow generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Complete financial reports and statements for the monthly Board meeting. Circulate in advance of the Board meeting and save in the Board drive. Ensure required documents are provided to the auditor and the annual audit is completed in a timely manner. Liaise with the bookkeeper/accountant, as needed. Complete signing authority requirements and sign cheques or other documents as needed. Provide for continuity in the position Ensure annual charity return is completed Support the development, review, and implementation of the financial policies and procedures Time commitment approx. 3-5 hours per month. Qualifications: Accounting or Finance Designation (CPA) Previous board experience desired Experience with QBO preferred.
