Opportunity Description:

Volunteer Opportunity  Sackville-Bedford Special Olympics Youth MultiSport Coaches and Program Volunteers   Program runs from October 2019 to May 2020 Weekly Sessions – Fridays 6:15PM to 7:30PM at Sackville High School   Special Olympics Nova Scotia is dedicated to enriching the lives of Nova Scotians with an intellectual disability – through sport. We are a not-for- profit, grassroots organization that provides sport training and competition opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities. Minimum age is 13.  Volunteers over age 18 will be required to complete police and child abuse checks. Youth MultiSport encompasses a number of sports and prepare the athletes for our main sports in Special Olympics.  These include Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Track, Bocce, Curling, etc.  Youth MultiSport is for athletes ages 13-21 and their siblings.  We are looking for both head coaches and program volunteers for our Youth MultiSport Program: Head Coaches are responsible for planning and leading sessions, communicating with parents/guardians, storing and transporting equipment, and guiding volunteers.  Training and program guides are provided. Program volunteers assist the coaches run activities, help athletes one-on-one with skill drills (i.e. kicking a ball back and forth), and also participate in warm-up and games to help encourage and engage the athletes.
