Opportunity Description:

Officials Representative Reports to: Venue Team Sport Lead Join The Team: Halifax (K’jipuktuk) is hosting the 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in July 2020 which will be the largest multi-sporting event to be held in Nova Scotia. Marking the first time the Games will be held in Atlantic Canada, this event will take place over eight days from July 12 – 18, 2020, and will include more than 5,000 Indigenous sport and cultural youth participants from over 756 nations in 17 sporting disciplines. Events will be held at various locations in Halifax Regional Municipality and Millbrook. 2020 will mark the 10th edition of the Games.   What’s Involved: The Officials Rep will work in conjunction with the Venue Team Sport Lead to ensure that all FOP minor and major officials required to conduct the sport competition are in place for Games time.  Liaison with the Venue Team Sport Lead, PSO and Sport Chair with regard to the training of officials for the pre-Games test events and for the 2020 NAIG. As well, the Officials Rep will ensure that all minor officials are registered with the Volunteer Division of the 2020 Host Society. Collaborate with the Sport Chair and PSO Technical Rep to determine the total number of technical minor and major officials required for their respective sport competition. May be involved in the assignment of major officials. Oversee the identification, recruitment, and sport specific training of local minor officials required for Games time competition. Oversee the generic training of officials required for the 2020 NAIG Coordinate all scheduling of minor officials. Ensure that all on-site needs of the officials are conveyed to the VTeam via the Sport Chair, such as access to showers, officials lounge, and/or meeting room. Collaborate with the VTeam via the Sport Chair, to ensure that proper equipment, uniforms, and transportation are available for all technical officials.   Qualifications: Experience with leadership volunteer positions, and ability to lead subcommittee of volunteers if deemed necessary  Knowledge of officiating National or Provincial events. Officiating experience is highly recommended. Excellent planning, scheduling, and training skills. Ability to work with all groups of people and communicate in an appropriate interpersonal manner.   Time Commitment: Availability for periodic training meetings Monthly committee meetings from late 2019 – May 2020, moving to weekly in June 2020 Weekly tasks averaging 5-7 hours per week depending on scope of role and time of year Attendance at Mission staff and Executive Meetings may be required.  In person, on site availability from July 12 – July 18, 2020.
