Opportunity Description:

Purpose of Position Nutrition volunteers provide support to leaders before, during and after demonstrations so that the program can be effectively and efficiently delivered to members participating in nutritional programming. Key areas of responsibility • Purchasing groceries for the program (if requested). • Ensuring that perishable foods have not expired and disposing of spoiled foods. • Being familiar with the location of utensils and ingredients in the kitchen • Ensuring the kitchen is clean and ready to use and that the dishwasher is emptied before the session begins. • Depending on the amount of preparation that is required, arrive at Wellspring 30 – 60 minutes before the lecture or demonstration, in order to help prepare. • Greet individuals as they arrive, and direct them from the designated waiting area to the demonstration kitchen, when food preparation is complete and the program is ready to begin. • Prepare food for demonstration by washing, measuring, cutting and/or mixing ingredients and help with the cooking, if requested. • Help plate food and distribute to members. • Show ingredients and packaging to participants, if asked to do so by the leader. • During food demonstration, clear participants tables and the leader’s working area by collecting cooking tools and used plates, cups and eating utensils. Place utensils in dishwasher or hand wash and dry kitchen utensils. • Prepare and distribute leftover samples that individuals may wish to take home. • At the end of the demonstration, clean up kitchen by storing food and ingredients, disposing of garbage, collecting used kitchen utensils and placing them in the dishwasher. Required knowledge, skills and abilities a) Be at least 18 years of age b) Demonstrated interest in nutrition and healthy eating c) Competency in the kitchen; no professional training is required d) Provide an acceptable Police Record Check Training a) Food Safety Workshop (we offer – must be completed prior to first shift ) b) Peer Support Training (to be completed as soon as possible) c) Nourish Volunteer Orientation
